This series is huge for the Yankees as the mariners are 1.5 games behind the yanks for the last wildcard spot and the yanks just lost a series to a team that's now just half a game behind them. I don't see how the trade made such a big change to the team other then Clippard not being in the bp. Do you really think that all the yanks need to snap out of it is singing Kumbaya on a flight?

Well, you have two bullpen arms to replace the ****show that was Clippard. I mean you can now run out Betances-Robertson-Chapman over the final three innings, with a guy like Kahnle to boot. If Chapman gets it together then you have a KC Royals WS-esque bullpen closing down games.

I still think the Yankees should acquire Duda for 1B (not saying that as a Mets fan, just being pragmatic). Let Frazier play third, Duda if he stays healthy will absolutely mash in that lineup and at that park, and Headley can sit on the bench. Plus, Duda probably won't cost more than a B prospect in the low minors.

Starting pitching is still problematic, but if the offense regains its explosive form it's a lot less of an issue.

As a mets fan I was hopeful the Mets could get something of value out of Duda from the Yanks. I don't see that happening anymore. I don't know who else Duda is a better fit for though.

Szapucki to have TJS. He sounds more like a hockey player than a pitcher.

One bit of good news is that Chris Flexen has a .72 WHIP and 1.66 ERA in his first seven AA starts. 50/7 K/BB in 48 innings. He was raw when drafted and just gets better as he moves through the system.

IDK about that. Smith is hardly a given but neither is Alonso. Certainly not someone I'd bank my fortunes on.

I feel Smith has Loney like ability, but could be more. Loney in prime was a very solid hitter and an elite glove. If we can have that out of Smith, I'd be very happy with his development.

A's apparently have eyes all over Trenton tonight.

I see Mateo being the center piece for Gray. Send them Headley to offset salaries for Alonso.

Cashman was on with Francesca today. When asked about Mateo as being available/untouchable Cashman was trying to choose his words carefully. Cashman went as far to say as they think Mateo has more tools than Torres, but I think it was posturing by Cashman

More? Nah, he does have a legit 80 tool though (speed.) I guess you could say he has the higher ceiling, but he has a higher ceiling than just about anyone.

He's been ripping up AA since being promoted though. I wouldn't be opposed to moving him at all.

Acevedo was on the bump tonight too, I think they were there to watch him. I have less of a problem giving him up as I think his future is basically becoming Betances 2.0. That is far from bad, but a reliever is a reliever.

The guy I want to give up the least in AA is Zack Littell. Hes been awesome across 2 levels this year and he knows how to pitch with out trying to muscle everything up to 100. IMO, hes their 2nd best pitching prospect (behind Sheffield, ahead of Adams.)

The gap between Gray and Quintana isn't very big and the former won't require a top 10 prospect to acquire.

He comes with more risk (he wont stay healthy long term) but when he's healthy, hes very good.

He's not getting traded.

And he'll eventually figure it out. Too talented not to.

As for Chapman, I still maintain he's pitching hurt. We may not see a fully healthy Chapman till next season.

Sorry, it may have seemed like a knee-jerk reaction.

But we added 2 quality pieces in the pen. We need to capitalize on Betances' value like we did for Chapman/Miller.

Trade Betances, and the trade they made is worthless.

D-Rob is a FA after next season, and he'll be like 33-34.

Betances isn't going anywhere.

Not too keen on trading Betances. Although it would be at peak value Chapman hasn't looked all that great this year and unless Betances is traded in a deal for a top end starter we're dealing ourselves out of a position of strength. Its going to take more than one SP acquisition to get length out of the rotation. If Mateo is the next piece being moved I hope its for the long term not a rental/quick fix starter. As much as i'd like this young team to make the playoffs being in it until maybe the last week is valuable, no need to trade future assets for a wildcard.

What do you mean? Honest curiosity to your opinion on that.

Neither Betances or Chapman should have been in this game.

Betances has been fouled up mechanically for a while now. You have the depth in the bullpen to give him a few days off to get him sorted out, do it.

I have no idea whats wrong with Chapman, but using him in a non save situation just because you can was stupid. Others have speculated that he's probably not 100% from whatever he went on the DL with, I tend to agree. If you want to rest him up to get him healthy, now is the time to do it. Plus when was the last time he had a clean outing while throwing under 20 pitches?

And while it had no effect on the game, he got Robertson up twice to warm in the pen. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Girardi deems him unavailable tonight due to throwing too many pitches in the pen. I always felt like JG got wayyyyy to much hate from Yankee fans prior to this season, but he's been AV levels of bad this year.
