Callaway is going to be fired in October if he doesn’t figure out how to correctly manage a bullpen

This planet didn't go through billions of years of survival against the cosmic war zone that is outer space just so Jose Reyes could see at-bats in 2018.

For the love of god

Remarkably I thought nothing of them keeping him. I thought keeping Asdrubal Cabrera would be the disaster move

I read in an article on ESPN that the big option based on AB's disappears. If that's what you were even referring to.

If that's the case (on a trade), I could see him dealt to a team somewhere. If he gets his outright release, he for sure loses the clause.

With that said, I'm still not sure where he'd have a spot on the Mets. Frazier is back soon. Flores shouldn't be out long. A-Gon has been okay. Can he play any other position than 1st? I think his days at 3rd are done, and LF is something I do not want to see. Plus we got Bautista to be the RH OF (and he's been really good so far).

He has no spot on the Mets, from where I sit.

Anyway, even if he did, the problem with the Mets is their pitching has been a garbage fire. Behind Syndergaard and deGrom, they've had Matz who has been pretty OK and then literally nothing. And the bullpen has already cost them 6 or more games in the standing.

They can win with good pitching and mediocre hitting. They're not going to win with good hitting and the shit pitching they've had.

Wheller has been off and on. Last game vs the Brewers wasn't bad, and he gutted it out. Vargas has been a lost cause. 1 okay start. Hopefully it was just facing a team like the Brewers, as opposed to him just being trash.

It's a sad state when Gsellman is your best reliever right now. Familia has blown saves, but he's actually been really good otherwise. Past that, anyone everyone else can do better. Lugo has been okay. Sewald has surprised.

Hopefully Swarzak can come back and help. He has been out for so long, it's hard to remember him being on the team.

Ramos and Blevins have been a tire fire. If Ramos is hurt, then it's what it is. They need Blevins to figure it out and quickly. There is no viable LH reliever in the minors AFAIK. It's not as big of a need as it used to be, because as long as you get out lefties consistently, IDC what hand you throw with.,

Yeah in terms of lefties there isn't much. Conlon, but he's not really a specialist--last year his splits were even at AA and in AAA this year lefties have knocked him around. Purke is in AAA, too, but he's shit. Baumann shouldn't even be a consideration at this point.

They have Tim Peterson and Drew Smith, righties, who when you account for the fact they're in the PCL and specifically Vegas, they've actually been lights out. I don't know if either is on the 40-man, but they might need to start thinking about giving those guys a look (instead of someone like Gerson Bautista who should be good in a year or two but isn't ready).

Anyway, even if the relief pitching settles, I still just see no way to fix the rotation short of acquiring someone through trade, which I don't think they ought to be doing at this point in their organization's development. Although I do see we signed Aaron Laffey out of independent ball--so help is clearly on the way!

And the hits just keep on coming. Not sure who is in line to take his start tomorrow. Lugo was out there for 2 yesterday. Gsellman just pitched. Could send down Conlon and call someone up.

I guess Vargas could go on short rest. He barely pitched the other day. Would give Lugo/Gsellman an extra day to prepare for a piggyback game. Could bullpen it with those two and Conlon. He only threw 46 pitches yesterday.

Matz today, Vargas tomorrow, BP day (Lugo, Conlon, Gsellman, Robles, Sewald), and then back to Wheeler and deGrom. From there you figure out who starts the next time through between Lugo and Gsellman

He will be out 6-8 weeks with that based on the few incidents I’ve seen of position players getting the same injury.
