Wilpon is so jealous of the Yankees it’s sad.

Maybe a little but if he were that envious wouldn't he allow the GM to spend money during all those years they desperately needed it? They've had a AAAA hitting lineup for about 3 or 4 years now and the payroll never increases.

Hopefully they were just saving it for this off season coming up. Although I guess Wright refusing to retire so he can milk the team for 20 mil to do absolutely nothing doesn't help either and Cesp being a limping body all day, everyday doesn't help either.

They're above average in payroll for years.

Overall they're only around ~$12mil less than the Yankees in 2018 payroll.

Look at where they rank in active payroll for the last few years. They have had a TON tied up in disabled list and retention. They frequently rank bottom 10 in the payroll of the active roster.

More important then being close to the yankees (which i KNEW someone would say without actually figuring out why)

is how they COULD'VE spent more and chose not to for YEARS.
