OT: MLB Thread 2025

Absolutely wild that NYY have Rice and Goldschmidt raking. Cashman’s 1B is usually reserved for a slow fat washed guy. Where does Stanton go?
You want him in the playoff roster but he has absolutely no case over anyone on the roster right now.

Rice has more WAR so far this season than Stanton's last three seasons combined.

Stanton should go into the dugout.

We can't let his hot playoff run distract from the fact that he hasn't cracked a 1 WAR or a .300 OBP in years.

And even then, he's particularly useless off the bench because he isn't a good pinch hitter, and can't run or field at all.

Sorry, I'm not happy about him coming back. Simple as that. We're going to end up sitting guys that are hitting well to insert barely an MLB player, who has the versatility of a broken screwdriver.

So it's as if he's Giancarlo Kreider.

There's no iteration of the Rangers during Kreider's lifetime that I wouldn't insert Kreider into.

This is like having a 4th liner who's pseudo-obligated to play in the top 9 because of his salary, but now your whole top 9 is really good, and also the player wouldn't be a good 4th liner.

The only real argument besides his playoffs is that he's RH and we're overloaded on LHs but even then, Stantons splits against LH aren't that much better over his career, especially in the last three years, where he's actually better against RH pitchers.

Maybe against lefty starters? Idk Rice seems legit and idk what more he could even do to stay in the lineup

@Machinehead Great post. Way to bring the facts and well thought out opinions.

There's nothing more he can do at this point. If they sit Rice down to put Stanton in, it's because of vibes and salary.

I don't have any well thought out opinions.

I'm filled with hate and exhaustion, and the Yankees and Rangers fuel it like two Victorian peasants shoveling coal into the furnace.

Stanton’s always been a team first guy, maybe this will be the first time it’s truly tested. I would understand frustration on his part after basically backpacking the team to the WS. But the correct decision is prioritizing him the least right now

Last year Trent Grisham looked like he was an afterthought in a trade. This season he is producing like an all-star so far.

If only Rice could play 3rd
Oof, even more so now. Ugh, a brutal injury to Cabrera last night. One of those: when you see it, you want to unsee it. Likely a dislocated ankle/broken tib/fib combo.

DJ comes back to play 3rd regularly now, I guess. They could just give Peraza an extended look at 2nd to sink (likely) or swim until Chisholm returns.

Looking back, Ben Rice, after his first year in rookie ball, has hit at every level he's played at (overall OPS in minors was .935). The question is always can they make the jump and it's still early, but it looks like Rice could be a development victory for the Yanks.

On Grisham: We'll see if there is a nasty regression to the mean coming after a hot streak. He was a highly drafted player out of HS. Looked like he could be something after his first full season in MLB but then just cratered for the Padres the following two years. It's weird because he always had the tools. Maybe it's the power of the stash and no batting gloves. He looks like he's 38 instead of 28 which throws me off.

I finish with my (maybe) not so serious proposal (but why the f*** not): Stanton for Devers....who's regretting that more the morning after?!?!
