That's the difference between the Dodgers and Yankees (and Mets).

The Plucky, Upstart, Underdog Mets: 306M-318M in payroll
The Cheap, Tightening the Purse String, Moneyball Yankees: 303M-309M in payroll
The Just Bought a WS, Spend All Day Dodgers: 241M-250M in payroll
If I’m not mistaken those numbers include 80+ million not on roster for Mets and don't include ohtanis 70 million deferred salary. Don't know about yanks.

Yeah, there is a little bit of ambiguity with the total numbers. That is why I even put up a spread. To me, the point still stands though, which is:

One team spends a lot and has been doing so poorly and looks to continue to do poorly do soy for the foreseeable future.
Another team spends a lot and has also done so poorly but came to the realization they did of that and now are trying to course correct.
And the last team spends a lot and has done so smartly and will likely continue to reap the benefits of it.

Don't disagree but that's still a $150 millionish swing. The difference between new and old ownership is that Cohen was willing to eat the $80+ on Scherzer and Verlander in order to trade them for good prospects rather than do a salary dump for a bag of pucks. Worked out pretty well for Scherzer who got a ring out of it. It also allowed the Mets to bounce back from a 101 win season in 2022 to get to the 2024 NLCS.
