If I’m not mistaken those numbers include 80+ million not on roster for Mets and don't include ohtanis 70 million deferred salary. Don't know about yanks.

Yeah, there is a little bit of ambiguity with the total numbers. That is why I even put up a spread. To me, the point still stands though, which is:

One team spends a lot and has been doing so poorly and looks to continue to do poorly do soy for the foreseeable future.
Another team spends a lot and has also done so poorly but came to the realization they did of that and now are trying to course correct.
And the last team spends a lot and has done so smartly and will likely continue to reap the benefits of it.

Sources: Cole, Yankees stay together on old deal

Yankees ace Gerrit Cole is staying with the club on his original four-year, $144 million deal, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. Cole had exercised his opt-out clause, but the two sides agreed to play out the contract and talk extension.
