The Grimace Era will not be forgotten.I did enjoy that the Mets gave us a nice run of fun baseball though.
I was beyond jaded at the end of May so it was a welcome surprise.

Me too. I drink in happiness on the chance the Mets get him.I f***ing love Juan Soto and every day the Yankees don't extend him, I drink.

Meanwhile, Alvarez going from 25 dingers last year to a pace of 10.
If I were the Post, my very Post-play-on-words backpage headline would be:
THE CATCHER IN AWRY

Good one, @will1066. @Machinehead If Judge and Soto retired today, they'd both be top 20 all-time in OPS+. It's amazing.

A counter argument could be that they wouldn’t pitch as hard anymore, leading to fewer injuries. The 6 inning rule is just asking for an uptick in arm injuries.
no need to add/make any new rules...just rescind most the rules they've adapted over the past 30 or so years and go back to basic baseball -- this homer or strike out era is killing the game. Can't remember the last time I saw a sacrifice bunt (not that anyone today would know how) or even a simple hit and run.Owners discovered that throwing as hard as you can with 3000 rpm is the best way to get modern hitters out, and when the pitcher’s arm explodes there’s 100 guys behind him willing to give it a go. Not sure what the MLB expected after making so many rule changes that favor hitters.
I would raise the mound, deaden the bats, and ban all the body armor hitters get to wear before adding more rules that complicate things and eliminate strategy. I would also punish owners off the field for arm injuries. Then maybe pitchers will start pitching to contact again.
The baseball as we knew it in the 80s, 90s and early aughts is dead. Ironically the rules' intention was to preserve the game and adapt to more powerful players as well as clubs using mountains of available data that has evolved game tactics and player management and off field strategies.no need to add/make any new rules...just rescind most the rules they've adapted over the past 30 or so years and go back to basic baseball -- this homer or strike out era is killing the game. It would help their strategy also. I'll take a possible double play grounder to short over a SO any day. Once metrics came out, we discovered that SO kings were slightly overrated and pitchers who pitched to contact were slightly underrated. Knuckleballer Phil Niekro played 24 seasons and is 35th in bWAR. Nolan Ryan played 27 seasons and is 62nd.... Then maybe pitchers will start pitching to contact again.
