Harper playing 1B was never really on the table if the Yankees are really that disinterested. He's probably asking for more than Stanton money.

Think Machado is going to be a Yankee when all is said and done. There's too much smoke around it. The Steinbrenner's are going to try and shave a few million dollars off of the deal, but I think it gets done.

I still don't think the rotation is filled in enough, but

Machado (3B)
Judge (RF)
Gregorious (SS)
Sanchez (C)
Stanton(LF)
Hicks (CF)
Andujar (DH)
Torres (2B)
Bird (1B)

If everyone is healthy is scary.

It's not a question of whether closers should get in to the HoF. Lee Smith is in so how can Rivera not get in? The only "negative" thing I can say about Rivera is that he was money in the playoffs and he was fortunate enough to be on a team that made the playoffs 16 of his first 17 seasons.

Also, rumors (forget which source exactly said it but mlb.com has a piece on it) are saying the Yankees are the favorites to land Manny Machado. Looking like a creative contract with opt out clauses.

Also yanks are still in on Robertson, Ottavino, and Britton

It's not like Baines has 550 homers or whatever the **** and the "damn millennials" are trying to keep him out with their "damn math."

He doesn't even have good counting numbers.

Screw the numbers. There's the sight test. And that there was never a 2/3 year period where you would day Baines was one of the top-5 players in the league or at his position.

Not sure how that is remotely affordable. In 3 years or so, that probably costs you $150-$175 alone. And that does not even consider pitching.

Baines does not belong anywhere near the HOF.

What is a true travesty is George being held out.

And when the Yankees officially sign Machado we can stop questioning whether its affordable or not. In fact, when they make a large offer, even if it isnt the highest and he decides to sign elsewhere, we can stop discussing whether they can “afford” it or not.

We have gone down this road over and over again of how there are different ways the Yankees can shed salary in the coming years. Lets not do it again.

The rumors are that the Yankees are submitting and a final offer and seen as the frontrunners.

It makes me feel bad too because I don't want to disparage or insult the man's legitimately good career either but its an insanely weak admission

The Baseball Hall of Fame has been riddled with holes and problems for awhile though.

I read an article recently about how this puts Baines in an unfair position because the Hall was broken way before him.

It's a two-sided coin for him because yes, it's a wonderful honor, but he now has to listen to negative press about himself and constantly answer to the notion that he wasn't all that great.

I'll have my opinions on it, but for Harold, I hope he and his family take nothing but good from it.

Leetch had it first above..

But i think they should be signing at least one bullpen arm in next week before Machado decides

I honestly would like to see the Yankees sign all 3 of those relief pitchers. Now the time to move their chips to the center of the table.

Add one more young controlled starter along with Machado.

Great news. Hopefully won't need to see abomination of a 3B in Andujar play that position again.
