Glad Gardner is staying. With Gardner/Ellsbury we'll have a very good outfield defense even if we put a golf buggy in the right field. Similar deal to what Michael Bourn got. Gardner is a better player however.

Hell yeah! Was not expecting this. Pumped about it, definitely though he'd test the free agent waters. Gardner's my favorite player. Really relieved that he'll be here for the next 4 years.

Is Gardner really a 52M player? As a Mets fan he's a guy I like and even root for but 52 for 4 years?? That's a bargain? How much money has the evil empire spent this off season?

Gardner hits .300? That's news to me.

Who cares about batting average? Gardner's career .352 OBP is actually slightly better than Ellsbury's career .350 OBP. Both guys steal a lot of bases and both are great defenders. Ellsbury has more power, but not enough more to justify a roughly $10 million gap in AAV. Gardner definitely gave the Yankees a discount from what he could've had on the open market.

It's about right. Michael Bourn got 4/48 with a 5th option year 12 months ago. Gardner is a better player. Bourn was also coming of a career year that he was unlikely to repeat.

Speaking as a Mets fan myself, yes he is. Strong defender, speed, and a great eye. You have to compare it to the market today. I'd take Gardner all day at 13MM a year. The Yankees got themselves a bargain, and Gardner gets the financial security. Very fair for both parties.

I'm glad the Yankees are taking post-Jeter era seriously.

I am fortunate enough that my gateway to the Yankees, even before I arrived here...in America, is none other than Derek Jeter, throughout the 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 dynasty.

I even lament, leaving my 1996 World Series commemorative ball, back in the Old Country.

...........and so it begins for the Mets Jon Niese sent to NY for an MRI on his shoulder..

Wonderful. The Mets will put him in a walking boot for three weeks, and when that doesn't work put him in a different walking boot for four weeks, and when that doesn't work amputate his arm.

LOL...Just saw on FB his shoulder is clean....We shall see

Whether they suck or not, it's always nice to sit back, relax and watch the Mets, for me. Hopefully this is rthe year that starts the upward trend. 120-42 is pretty reasonable, no? :D

EY just kicked Harper in the head while turning two. Knocked Harper out of the game. I hope EY's foot is okay.

Gee was great today. Made two mistakes command-wise and it cost him.

Ligares! What a stroke. That ball was in his eyes. Rare mistake by Clippard.

Lagares has a lot of talent. If he refines his approach at the plate, he'll be a solid player for a long time.
