Why would we want to do that? Price only has two years of team control and we wouldn't even be able to pair him with Matt Harvey in the first one. We have tons of pitching talent. We desperately need bats. If I'm making a major deal, then it's for a hitter. Plus, dealing d'Arnaud is counterproductive. He's one of the only major league ready young position players we have.

Wonder if we could swing something like

Niese + d'Arnuad + Ike for Price and Yunel
Montero + Duda for Markakis
Resign Buck
Flores at 1st
Platoon Lagares and Young at center.

Lagares/Young
Granderson
Markakis
Murphy
Wright
Flores
Yunel
Buck

Price
Wheeler
Bartolo
Gee
Mejia

Not bad at all.

Nowhere near enough for that package. A dea with Wheeler/Syndegaard, a midlevel pitching prospect, and d'Arnaud for just Price might get them to think. Ike has little to no value and Niese has some but not as a major piece of a deal. Yunel is no throw in.

That's one of the most ridiculous trades I've ever seen.

Wheeler may be good enough to win the Cy Young eventually. D'Arnaud is top 2 prospect, close for 1st, and a midlevel pitching prospect?

No team with comparable prospects and players would agree to that trade. Laughable.

Wheeler MAY be good enough for a Cy Young eventually but Price IS a Cy Young pitcher that's 28. Roy Halladay was 32 when he was traded to Philly. He was traded for D'Arnaud (ironically enough), Kyle Drabek (25th best prospect in all of baseball at the time), and Michael Taylor (who was a top 50 OF prospect).

Equal value for a YOUNGER David Price would be: D'Arnaud, Syndegaard, and Wilmer Flores at the very least. If you think you're getting an ace for pennies on the dollar, you're out of your mind. That package still might not get it done.

Tampa wants Taijuan Walker + from Seattle and he's the best pitching prospect in all of baseball. Offering Niese (a 3 at best) and Ike (not that valuable) isn't going to make Tampa budge.

Bailey is exactly the type of player the Yankees should be targeting in a Gardner trade. It actually helps he's on the last year of his deal since the Yankees have money coming off the books next year that they could re-sign him with. His value would be too high otherwise but now the Reds could consider it.

Phillips might be worth it if the Reds take on a decent amount of the contracts. Phillips at 12 a year isn't a great investment but I'd take him at 8-10 a season for sure.

Thank God we turned down Gardner for Phillips and his declining skills...

now if THIS were to happen... then I'd be on board.

Heyman

"Not agreeing to this specific offer doesn't mean that the discussion process is over. The two teams have pieces that the other would like, with the Yankees coveting Homer Bailey and the Reds seeking Gardner to bolster their outfield. If the Reds throw in money toward Phillips' contract or even add Bailey to the equation, it's possible that a deal could get done."

#Yankees value Gardner’s speed, on-base ability, superior defense - and even his clubhouse presence. He’s a longtime favorite of Cashman’s.

Phillips owed $50M over next four seasons. Gardner will earn $4M+ in walk year. #Yankees continue to say they are reluctant to trade him.

Would not give that up. Don't think Seattle would either.

Tampa is the one who needs something back. They can't afford Price. Let them lower their price.

@JonHeymanCBS:*yankees offered infante 3-year deal. But he's seeking $40M, 4 yrs. kc among others in... neh, don't like that offer

3 years at $24 million isn't terrible.

I think I'd rather keep Mark Reynolds. He still has some pop. Play him at 3B and Johnson at 2B. Sign Eric Chavez for the bench.

Save the money for "buy low" pitcher and Tanaka.

Also, JOBA SIGNS WITH DET. Can't wait to tee off on his mediocre fastball next year. :handclap::handclap:

Caught the Cano interview this morning. What a classless punk. I'm glad he is gone from this team. He says its not about the money, then says he wanted a contract to finish his career on. What a joke

Mets shouldn't be looking to acquire a pitcher. Of course you can't rely on prospects, but Syndegaard and Wheeler project well enough that the very least they'll be #3's on a good pitching staff. Harvey is a bonafide ace, and watching guys come back from TJS now i'm not too worried he'll suddenly not be good in 2014.

Niese at his best has shown he can be a 3, and Gee's a good 5, maybe even a good 4.
I don't want to move d'Arnaud, one of our only legitimate offensive prospects besides Flores, Dom Smith and maybe Puello.

I have to agree with the overall feeling you have here. Cano's press conference had no edge to it or love for Seattle. The clips I caught spoke about him and his relationship with the yankees. It was all about the money and nothing to do with Seattle. Most PROFESSIONALS take the contract, let go of thoughts of his former team, and discuss the team he is joining with no mention of the previous team. Not Cano. He doesn't want to be a Mariner and to here him say its not about the money is laughable.

He says he feels disrespected? How about not having your idiot of an agent/agency demand 10 years and $310 million for the yankees to keep him from reaching free agency. Its the YANKEES. Don't come out with some egregious demands for the most storied baseball franchise to meet. That's when it went sour. Had Cano really wanted to stay in NY which i think still holds true, he would've been more realistic with his initial demands. Not sure why he is so surprised by all this.

Player A's season... 134 games, 172 hits, 298 avg, 9 hr, 53 RBI.. Player B's season.. 145 games, 147 hits, 273 avg, 8HR, 52RBI.. no other clues than those, who are the two players
