In years past he just choked and played like shit in games 5-7 of the playoffs. Now he's doing it in the regular season on a normal basis.

I have long seen Mariner's playstyle to be a significant reason why we struggle to see much success when the stakes are increased.
Cute, low percentage, high risk plays just don't work when you don't have the kind of time and space you do against lesser opponents not giving their best effort.
Instead it just teaches bad lessons and leads to a bad culture of not working hard for every single opportunity.
Unfortunately at this point we're basically f***ed because of the no move clause.

Nylander is a better OVERALL player I’m saying it n I don’t care who’s offended it’s the truth the knacc on him is he doesn’t give the full effort he’s a better offensive weapon and he’s looking better situational as well defense is close closer than ppl claim I would seriously move on from him it’s an unpopular move but we can solve our d problem and get a different player his spot on the power play can be replaced trade him after all star break
Wish we could, but as I found out earlier this week, his NMC kicked in on July 1st. I thought it started this coming July 1st.

I loved him when he joined the league and hoped he would become another Gilmour like player, but he is the exact opposite of Dougie. He has to go; the money being wasted on him could be put to much, much better use.

In another post, someone mentioned rehiring Babs, and Marner will be banging on the door to get out. Not advocating for a Babs return, but wouldn't a Gerard Gallant have the same effect. I know he blows through coaching positions like Tortorella, but he always has immediate results. This may force Mitch and his Dad into a corner. But who would take this albatross salary and ego, as well as his dad. Maybe Mitch's buddy Kyle in Pittsburg.
Probably unnecessary to have another Marner thread here, but I will bite. If this guy was on the Draisaitl contract, I wouldn't have any issue with him, but out of the core 4 the guy is an enigma and you simply can't have a player taking up this much cap space not knowing what you're getting game in and game out.
I'm at the point where if Marner walks, he walks. Take the 11m in cap space and retool the roster.

The only other thread on the first page is the Marner appreciation thread which is basically a circle jerk and people have been told not to post anything negative there.
Appreciation threads are a waste of space, there should be only one thread allowed per player.
They really need to get Marner to waive his NMC, not sure what else there is to say.

Tavares will be gone after next year and one of either Marner or Nylander need to traded. Hard to see it being Willy with his extension and he has been the better player this year and in the playoffs.

Mitch has been same kid since he was 6 years old .. nothing has ever changed .. don't expect any changes now .. he always runs into huge problems when game pace really picks up and he can't afford himself time and space with puck .. he has no plan B in his game .. he can't start running into people .. he can't handle any rough stuff .. he could never forecheck .. he only has a quick acceleration to beat people and then drag puck at blueline and use his edgework to hold onto puck .. but he will pick up tons of points in slower games where time and space with puck fondles his creativity .. and his creativity is best in game .. he knows it too .. it is kinda sad really as I have been telling his dad since he was 6 what needed to be fixed .. but some people never listen and they never learn
