Tavares was overpaid by around a million but he was the top UFA in his prime, his contract was fair value. Whether he actually lived up to it after his first season is very much debatable. I would say we only got our money's worth in his first year.

The Matthews & Marner deals were absolutely atrocious in hindsight. They got much more than their comparable peers, they got less term and all of the clauses. Dubas got absolutely bent over.

Paying that for a player who will be your 1C for several years is fair value. Playing that for someone who will be your 2C after the first year isn't, and was the root cause of all the other overpayments.

I'm not naturally gifted like you, I'm one of those sick f***ers that has been getting up at 5am for the last 20ish years, I've completed my full workout + 5k walk/ bike ride, shower and breakfast before most people are awake. It takes a lot of work to look this good ...

If you actually read my post , I've said here and other places , I'm ok with trading him and moving on from him if it makes the leafs better... I'm just not going about it in a weird obsessive way few on here are.

Im on lunch, I have time, I normally don't get myself into these sorta scrimmages on HF, I thank you for being my first.

At this point in time this thread really makes no sense. You're right, one side has to be louder than the other side. Sure discussions on a board are the whole point, but until we hear any updates from the leafs or Marner camp, this thread should die. It won't, but it is what it is. I'll continue my usual lurking self and go back in the shadows. Good day.

If you mean one player that can more or less replace Marner's talent level, probably nobody. Those guys rarely reach free agency.
