11m for griddy dances? GTFO

Marner is such an immature coward in the way he plays the sport of his own choosing...

I think about the sacrifice the Bruin's Poison Dwarf made throughout the series, all the punishment he took to get anything done out there. The amount of hitting the Leafs subjected Pastrnak to, and all those guys did was try to go to the net a little harder, one more time... and I compare that to Marner's fade away jumpers. Looking off okay looks in traffic for the safety of the perimeter for even worse looks before there's no options. What are you playing for?

Don't forget Cap can go both ways.

Example, Gibson and Fowler for marner and Rielly.

Just using as example.

Nah, I think he either goes for a clean cap sheet or to a team that's trying to make the playoffs.

I've vented enough about playoff Marner over the years so no longer feel the need but the newfound love for Willy is getting weird. The guy was invisible nearly every shift but is now a playoff warrior because he shot into an open net after a Bruin tripped in the corner and flipped another one in from the blueline.

I can't stand Steve Simmons, but in his column today he said "A voice whispering on Marner’s future in Toronto: The Leafs may inform Marner this summer that they have no interest in paying him $10.9 million, his current salary, on his next contract. That kind of talk could force Marner into accepting a move elsewhere, which would require him to waive his no-movement clause."

Not sure who that voice is, and it could be Simmons' main source (the hot dog guy), but that would be a smart way to play this - "listen, we aren't paying you what you currently make, and sure as shit ain't giving you a raise, so the choice is up to you. Oh, we'll also let it be known through friendly media that you refused to waive so have fun dealing with the fans next year."

He has played well in the playoffs the last two years.

The one fact you pointed out is he did in fact shot it in the net once last night and twice the game before . In a 2 game span not one of the other players let alone the 11 million dollar club put one in the net……..so ya Willy gets the love he is deserving of right now

Mitch Mental Midget Marner.

He is a liability.

His game completely lacks between the ears and the last guy you want to go into a hard fought game with.

His brain never adjusted out of Junior and he still does the same stupid shit.

Entitled and unable to see anything but what he feels he deserves.

Easily the weakest of Matthews and Nylander.

Get rid of him for whatever you can and save this team from this guy and the $12m he’s delusional in thinking he deserves.

Kid is so egotistical and thin skinned. He’s done here and his ego won’t allow for him going without a contract extension after July.

Tell him he won’t be re-signed today. Faced with an entire offseason of being harangued by the media for not having an extension all season long, he will waive his NMC because he’s that much of thin-skinned coward.

Bullshit hometown kid living the dream of playing for his beloved home team. The guy didn’t miss a chance to grub every penny possible and will do the same now.

Get rid of him. He’s a fraud.

Marner is incapable of elevating his game in the playoffs. What worked for him in junior, does not work in the NHL. All he did was hog ice time for those willing to battle. Trade or let him walk I don't care at this point. I just don't want a wuss like him on the team. He is only good during the regular season, but come crunch time he is useless.

Marner for Schmaltz? They need to replace Tavares with someone who can be a decent 2nd line c and Schmaltz can give you 60-70 points. Schmaltz also has has a cap hit of less than 6 for the next couple years. Marner would greatly increase Utahs chances of making the playoffs next year. You're losing the trade on paper but you aren't going to get equal value for Marner and you're getting a lot of cap space.
Or Marner for Crouse and Valimaki. Crouse is a decent second liner who can get you 20-25 goals and is big and hits a lot and Valimaki is a solid top 4 d which the leafs need. Just throwing out ideas for fun.

Drives me mental when I see people say "extend him for a reasonable amount." There is no reasonable amount, the damage is done. Come playoff time we're basically down a man when he's out there. Whether his cap hit is 11m or 5m or 3m, he's negative value when the chips are down.

I don't know who decides what, not sure anyone else does either. But the GM should be free to do the job he's hired to do, or what's the point?
Yup the only thing the president or board should have some sayin is how much money is available and if they want to invest it

Is anyone really calling him a playoff warrior?

He scores 40 or so goals in the regular season and can score in the playoffs as well. It's really that simple. They have guys they throw out there for intimidation; in the context of a tight-checking game, low-scoring game they really just need their highest-paid players to score timely goals. It doesn't matter how they do it.

I get there's variance and all that. Marner's game seven history is really poor, though. I don't think he has ever scored a game seven goal. His offense tries up late in series. It's become a trend. If all it takes to become a hero is scoring an opportunistic goal (or point) or two, he could have become one by now.
