No one wants to pay 11 million dollars for 1 year of a playoff no show. The other team has all the leverage since its Toronto desperate to trade him.

They would have to 100% retain salary. And no you're not getting pieces for "contention window" the Mitch marner experiment has set the team back at least 3 years.
He's only owed $775K after July 1st.

Marner is incapable of maturing as a player in the playoffs. He’s exactly the same thing he was on his ELC. He didn’t get any bigger, stronger, didn’t learn any insights. Didn’t change his game. Didn’t do jack shit.

And yeah, the much vaunted defensive game Marner is supposed to bring. Pasta blows right by him and he’s looking around cluelessly.
Ya this is my biggest issue. He still seems the same flamboyant rookie he started out as. He never matured. Year after year of crying after losing game 7 and he NEVER ONCE BOTHERED GIVING IT HIS ALL.

I can hate on the Bruins all I want, I saw Pasta show up repeatedly, I never ever saw Mitch. FOR GAMES AT A TIME.

As I said earlier, this is supposed to be his prime, and this is what he brings to the table? HARD PASS!

As an outsider fan: I think the Leafs organization is to blame not Marner. This team is built wrong and has been built wrong for years. You’re wasting your window trying the same thing over and over again while hoping for a different outcome. This organization needs to go all in, do what it takes to free up $$$ (trade Tavares & Marner) and utilize that $ to improve your depth on forwards and on D, while getting heavier. You can do a lot with that money.
I hope most of the fans didn’t drink the Toronto media Kool-aid that somehow Bertuzzi, Domi and Reaves makes them deeper and tougher. The first 2 are quality pieces that add sandpapers which is always welcome but you guys don’t have true depth with size.
Even if you scored in OT, Florida woulda bounced the Leafs out in 5.

Marner is largely what prevents us from building a proper program. His astronomical cap means everything below a certain level of the roster is a cheap duct tape part and he pulls a disappearing act when the heat is on. He and JT could be $22 million in other stuff.

Pasta got his ass kicked on the ice and found it in him to game break in the most critical time. He paid a very heavy price and was next to useless this series but there he was. Sometimes it just takes that one play but it’ll never happen for Marner. Not here in Toronto.

Personally I don't get any satisfaction from bitching about him, but as someone who wants the team to improve, I don't see what's wrong with pointing out that they should move on from him.

I think it might be the best thing for his career as well. Kessel did just fine for himself after TOR traded him (well, with PIT anyway).

I can sum up the entirety of Mitch's playoff career with: he blocked a shot in a game once and we won

That's it.

Did Marner play this series?
Some say he's still getting dressed, excited to show us all what he can do in a game 7 with everything on the line.

Almost deserves a secondary assist for escorting Pasta through open ice so safely.
looked like he was waiting for a pass

can't we buy him and JT out after July 1st.

both are only owed 700K.

I thought the cap hits would only be 516K total
Year 1 258 K
year 2 258K

but Cap friendly gives the 10 Mil as cap for year 1
I think the cap hits are based on the total AAV ($11m). They should put Tavares on LTIR or he should retire and then come out of retirement next March.

I don't like griping about him either but of the 3 big forwards we got he is absolutely the low man on the totem pole and is an absolute GHOST every playoff for almost a decade. DUD!

I’d buy him out before if let him play another game

He’s no where near a nylander in these games. And that guys no where near a nichuskin. Who’s nowhere near a rantanen
