I wonder why this market is so bad but Dallas isn’t bad for the Cowboys, LA for the Lakers, New York for the Yankee/Knicks, Boston for any of their teams. But somehow this market is just so bad it makes the players so bad

Dallas hasn’t won shit in years either. Jerry Jones is an idiot who plays into the negativity. What owner has a radio show and shits on his own team that he builds weekly?
Same with the New York Knicks, they haven’t won shit either. All these markets where the pressure is so high, they don’t win.
Yankees, Bruins and Eagles are really the exception.
LA isn’t even a hard market to play in. Really Dallas, Boston, Philly, New York, Toronto are the toughest markets out there

And yet it was guys who had actually played in the league who called him out for crying to the refs and throwing his gloves. Did you ever stop to consider that having played in the league, they might know something about how real pros act?
No, it really isn't. There is something about this franchise that prevents them having success here, but it isn't the market. There are much, much tougher markets out there in various sports and players thrive in those markets. Toronto ain't special and those who think it is need to get over themselves.

I kept saying most of the night, he should have been benched early in this game. I'd bench him until he's traded. He's an absolute blight on the ice for us, I've wanted him gone for almost a decade now....(on Marner) this is just pathetic, he hasn't won a battle all season long.x.com

He will go to a team that is properly constructed with the cap properly spent. Nothing will ever fix the absolutely asinine build of giving 50% of the cap to 4 soft forwards. It’s one of the most flawed build ever.
Individualy each of the core 4 brings some sort of value to a team but collectively they are over paid and unworkable

This isn’t even cap related. It’s player type related. You have 5 passive guys. This model probably works if you have a guy like Point or MacKinnon or Pasternak but we don’t have a killer

I’d cry too. All he had to do was show up and him and his daddy Paul could get 13m but now that he’s been so dog shit yet again in a contract year, he might lose 2-3 million per season. Poor Mitch.
Keefe is about to be unemployed anyways. I’d stick Reeves or Robertson in Marner’s place. They couldn’t be worse and he has nothing to lose. The point that would make, stapling that crybaby quitter to the bottom 6 would be priceless. But Shanahan is gonna demand they pay Paul Marner and his son 13m per year

The one good thing Willy did tonight. Probably saw enough of his nonsense on TV during games 1-3 and then in person during game 4.
Gotta give credit where it’s due. Marner competed hard in the 3rd and scored a very pretty goal. He did step up once Auston went home.

At the end of the day you can show all the clips of Marner floating, bailing on puck battles, throwing the puck over the glass, crying, letting Tkachuk bully him and looking hurt about it, but it boils down to one simple idea: when things get hard he doesn’t get mad he gets sad. He never reacts to this pressure by throwing dirty hits like Kucherov or Malkin, he just wilts away and sulks then blames everyone that isn’t him to the media. He hasn’t used any of these losses as motivation to come back faster, bigger, stronger the next year, he’s been the exact same player since 2018.
I don’t even mind watching the team lose that much, the bigger problem is the consistent history of guys like Marchand, Tkachuk, Ovi, etc treating Marner like he’s a complete joke, only stopping when they feel bad for bullying what’s essentially a mental child in a 26 year old body.

Get this pos the f*** off this team the minute the season ends (aka Tuesday).
If he shows up in the playoffs like Rantanen, Drai, Barkov and even Point. His contract would be a bargain.
Problem is he has not done it.
The thing is when you compare MM to those guys, some here thinks it is disrespectful bc MM is clearly a better player.
None of them is an alpha.
If only one of AM, MM, Willie, JT is a true alpha, we might see the best of them in the playoffs.
Now it doesn’t mean trading JT for Stone means Cup bc there are still holes on the team but having an alpha like Stone or Kopitar should allow AM, MM and Willie to have less responsibility.
Still remember watching the All or Nothing series and what Foligno said in the playins and he was there for like 2 months.
Leafs lacks leadership on the team that can score.
