Mitch Marner, Yet Again

Mcdavids been passed by 3 guys total, 1s an overpayment and 1s a fair deal, 1 is a steal. Matthews being the overpayment if it’s not clear

Marner shouldn’t be near draisaitl in AAV nor cap %. Marner should be very close to pastrnak as he isn’t the better player, so 13.47% or 12.5 on a 92.5 million dollar deal. That’s his ceiling IMO and anything more is a clear overpayment similar to nylander, and matthews.
I agree but add like 3% for tax differential. So, like 95-96M

How many other 90+ point forwards could drop back and man the blueline?

But look at Marner stepping up and playing defense - - he literally does it all.

I hope he gets to UFA so reality will sink in.

What reality are you hoping will set it? Your posts perplex me sometimes.

He’s getting paid, Chicago, San Jose, Carolina, any team with cap space will be backing up the trucks for him.

So again, what reality are you hoping will sink in? I don’t know what planet you think Marner is making less than 12 in. You’ve been suggesting 11 as if that’s a realistic number.

We’ll see

Teams weren’t beating a path to Rantanen for more than 12 million. I’ve read even the Stars GM hemmed and hawed had to sleep on it and finally decided to pull the trigger at the last moment. I’d feel better signing him to the best offer he gets after July 1st than our team determining his value.

Again false,

Carolina offered Rantanen way more than 12. Rantanen turned it down.

Way more, really? Source?

They are saying that he was offered more than 100m x 8 years, that would be over 12.5 AAV.

There’s other sources that site it was even higher than 12.75 but I’m lazy right now

And let’s also remind ourselves that Toronto only scored ONE (1) goal against Montreal.

Things are looking extremely bleak for the Leafs. The bleakest they’ve looked in many years.
Can you do us all a favour and change your profile pic? Makes me puke every time I read one of your sarcastic posts.

Yeah, he was amazing against Pastrnak last year in game 7... :sarcasm:

Marner sure let Pastrnak blew by him, what a defensive minded champ.

hockey 101. Marner did exactly what's expected...cut line pass in neutral zone is what was expected and he did it... protecting thr dump and covering 1st foward step in offensive zone is D responsability, not a foward responsability.

It's not a man to man coverage where you're just follow a guy whatever where he go on the ice, that's not working that way.

That goal was 100% on Rielly/Samsonov and nobody els

IMO, it was mostly on Sammy. If he actually read that half properly, he could have easily poked that out of the way.

I wouldn't say 12.5 is "way more", but OK more fair enough assuming this source is reliable. It's interesting, a player refuses more money to sign for less elsewhere. I would think Marner wants to play in Toronto so this suggests that we should be able to offer him less than what some other teams might be willing to pay.

I was responding to the poster saying Marner can do it all...it's obvious no single player can do it all...Marner should be paid "accordingly" for his game breaking, offensive abilities, not because he PKs...and "accordingly" means the Leafs should not be breaking the bank for whatever he's asking.

12.5x8 is the fair deal regardless of “tax”

Pastrnak doesn’t play in a no tax state, and he’s arguably the better player, so I think anything more than that and we should walk away

Awesome player but if they are waiting to sign McDavid for a couple million more then what can ya do? Take a year off next year to recoup cap and then go big. McDavid and Matthews up the middle would be unholy
