None of these plays contradict my main points on Marner. He doesnt go into dirty areas (corners, front of net) and he floats around open areas waiting for Matthews and Knies to do all the dirty work. Also, take note that he actually kinda went into a corner...thats a rarity for Marner and no doubt in part Berube was pissed (and fans) about the teams pathetic battle yesterday. This is the Marner way and ive said it repearedly this season, he avoids contact until the coach gets on him and then he makes "a little" more of an effort to go to the dirty areas. But he has to be forced. If it was up to him he definitely wouldnt do it. We all know this.gonna need a few importance of contribution to goal breakdowns @Antropovsky
I expect him to put up points with Knies and Matthews.
The test is the playoffs...when hitting ramps up. Lets all watch Marner very closely during playoffs for his physical play and willingness to battle in the dirty areas.
Look my mind is made up on Marner... hes had 5 years since his contract. I dont care what he does in his contract year...and certainly these plays dont move the needle. Just more of the same ways he produces.
Keefe called a special meeting a few years ago, despite being in 1st, because he wanted more dirty area goals, playoff goals....
He wasnt jumping up and down saying good job boys we are in 1st. He knew that playoffs require dirty areas and Marner doesnt have that in him.
