I want this guy f***ing gone...a playoff ghost and zero accountability. He's talented enough to be the 2nd best player on a championship team but the 1C has to be a Mackinnon/Crosby type player that the Leafs don't have.

if you look at the top contracts from those eras, you will see a heck of a lot of goal scorers.

You're mixing up two different things. GMs would be aware of the average offensive impact of different point types.

I put in the work to evaluate how different stats and factors correlate with contract history data, and took the position that GMs act how they have historically acted - which also aligns with the on ice impact. You are the one arbitrarily deciding that GMs discriminate based on playstyle and pay some notable amount more for goals than primary assists, even though there is zero evidence that that is true.

So Kyper in full defend Marner mode yesterday. He did say something I have said in the past from the Leafs perspective. If he signs now and they are punted in round 1 or perform poorly in round 2, he will get crucified by the fan base. I thought Leafs would not risk looking like clowns if they signed him before the playoffs and he flamed out, but they don't seem to care and have been trying to sign him. Mitch does which makes a ton of sense.

So I agree with Kyper unless they win 2 rounds, Mitch is gonzo.

I still say, if he were to sign a team friendly deal before the playoffs he will be buying some goodwill.
