Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Yet Again

The only way I consider extending Mitch is if he shows up in the playoffs and helps us win minimum 2 rounds. If we go out early again and he's a no show, why bring him back?

Clearly the formula doesn't work, maybe take the $14/15m that he's gonna demand and round out your lineup. Mitch is awesome but I really don't care about regular season heroics anymore.

When has Marner ever done that? Seems like you’re projecting. The man literally just says, he loves being a leaf and is focused on winning with them right now and doing what he can on the ice... Not sure how that is somehow translated into I’m the most dedicated leaf??

Steve Dangle put it best in todays SDPN episode (and he’s been on the get rid of Marner train since the Florida loss), just seems like people are mad to be mad. None of this information is new. We always knew he wasn’t going to waive his no trade and Marner has told us he ain’t signing in season.
If you don't think that Marner has branded himself to the public all these years as a player with an overly strong dedication to the team and city, but rather carries himself closer to something like an ROR mercenary type, than your position holds, as that would more closely align with his actions.

I dont think that's the general perception though, right or wrong. So it supports why people might be mad.

Also I'm not projecting anything, I don't even really care.

Tbf Marner sacrificed his 100 point season to get ready for Tampa Bay in 2023. He put the team over getting his 100 points. He agreed to be scratched when he was 1 point away from 100 in game 82. It sucks fans kinda throw that in his face now. Especially When Matthews chased 70 instead of putting the team first, Nylander chased 100 and got hurt.
Where do you get that? He played all 82 games.

Dumb insider of the day

Colby Armstrong suggesting that Mitch could end up revisiting his relationship with Dumbass and sign in Pitts.

First Kyle the boy wonder created that whole contentious negotiation with Mitch, which of course took on a life of its own thanks to the useful idiot Dreger.

Secondly why would Mitch sign up for the retirement tours of of Sid, Geno and Kris. The rebuild would start in year 3 of the Marner contract. The last time the Penguinos started a rebuild the old Igloo was half empty most nights for a few years and Jim Balsillie almost snuck away with the team.

Thirdly Mitch wants to stay.

I like Willy, but he is probably worth $10 max. Goal scoring should get paid a premium. Perhaps it was good faith for only make 6.9 the previous 6 years.
Only 28 players have scored 40+ goals over the last two seasons, and only 8, including Willy, have done it twice.

Over the last almost 3 seasons only 8 players have scored more total goals, and only Draisaitl and Willy have at least 35 in all three.

$10 max doesn't seem to include that 'goal scoring premium'.

Through their pre-signing periods, Marner had a better points per game and primary points per game, and even that doesn't capture the true offensive gap, as Rantanen's production was a bit of a mirage driven by high EN points and being on a team that got a lot of PP time. Those aren't really things that are representative of the player, that teams would be paying for.

Because he produces at a higher rate in each game state and overall.

I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion, but there's more to a player's impact.
Marner does?
Rwntanen is the one with multiple 100pts seasons with always more goals which. Is the harder thing to do…and way better playoffs including lifting the up but ok!

If Marner is chasing money I can see this.

Found a way to help the team get the 2 points.
Sure, but this is the problem. He’ll board the jet thinking he was good. They won, he got a goal.

He had 5 glaring turnovers in about 25 mins of play.

It’s just not good enough. He and the rest of the team need to find their game in this next stretch.

i've never seen marner turn the puck over, especially in the dzone as i did tonight

at least he chose a crappy team like Utah to do it against, and not thursday against florida or hopefully the playoffs

He had 1 giveaway 1 take away an assist and goal as the shootout winner in 21:05 and was first star of the game.
