The difference is Rantanen was ready to sign yesterday, Marner isn't yet. That's all it is. Tre went for the sure thing. Didn't work.
Yeah the guys who has been saying he wants to be a Leaf is still not ready to sign. I'll bet he'd be ready to sign if they offered him more than Matthews money. Face it, he's looking more and more like a slime ball.

I have provided plenty to back up my statement. The only thing you have provided are these subjective statements propping up Rantanen. While Rantanen certainly brings a lot to the table offensively, Marner is a better producer than him; both overall and in each game state, as I showed. Defensively, Marner far surpasses Rantanen. Marner also brings PK impacts and takes on the toughest situations in each game state.

You have ignored this, attempted to give Rantanen bonus points for his physical attributes and team success, and shifted your focus exclusively to playoffs. But not the full picture. You have isolated only playoff production, while refusing to acknowledge how disparate circumstances in the playoffs impact that production, the context behind it, and their performance in everything outside of just production. Marner is the better and more valuable player, but you don't seem interested in productive discussion, so I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
"If you’ve ‘provided plenty’ to back up your claim, then why does your argument rely so heavily on selective framing? You keep insisting Marner is better in every game state, but that’s simply not true. Rantanen is the better goal scorer, just as capable a playmaker, and has consistently elevated his game when it matters most. You dismiss his physical attributes as ‘bonus points,’ but size, strength, and the ability to protect the puck are actual hockey skills that contribute to a player’s impact.

You also claim I’m ignoring context while conveniently downplaying the fact that Rantanen has outperformed Marner in crucial situations, particularly in the playoffs, where the game tightens up and individual impact is magnified. Sure, Marner is a strong defensive forward, but let’s not pretend Rantanen is a liability, his two-way play is strong, and his ability to dominate possession is just as valuable.

You’re trying to frame this as a refusal to engage in productive discussion, but really, you just don’t like that I’m challenging your biased narrative. If we’re talking about full context, then we can’t just cherry-pick which aspects matter—Rantanen has proven himself just as valuable, if not more, in key moments. If you truly want a fair discussion, acknowledge that instead of dismissing it.

This entitled Princess is gonna walk plain and simple. He can get that absurd money from another team. He has had years strangleholding this team financially with no results. He can earn his giant payday somewhere else.
If I said him walking would hurt my feelings I'd be lying...

He's probably sick of fans like you that criticize him non-stop. Leading scorer all season and yet we have Marner threads incessantly trying to get rid of him..If I were him I'd also be waiting until after playoffs. None of our big guns show up last playoffs but all the blame is put on him, ya, I think I'd wait.

This is all a tactic. I don't believe Paul and Bonnie Marner have any intention of letting their boy and their upcoming grandchild move outside the city and potentially across the country/north America. I don't believe it for a second. They're very controlling and involved.

Is that good or bad ? Or does it really depend on the person being guided

I have said sign him for $12.5m, $12.8m max and he will win over some of the fans he pissed off after his last contract negotiations. My issue is he wants more than 34 and he is not worth it for what he brings. If that hurts his feelings, he can leave.

In that case I agree with you then. Rantanen's number +$500K for state tax differences.

Problem is he's better than Matthews this season, not because he's better than Matthews at his best but AM has come down a notch so I can kinda see his case to be made right now.

I agree but not sure you can't use that logic.

Step up ? The guy had two assists in the gold medal game and a 3 on 3 goal where he leaked out for a stretch pass he had more games where he disappeared then he showed up for like get real very good player but Hes a big part of why we haven’t got it done he can go wherever he likes
He "leaked out for a stretch pass" on the OT goal vs Sweden? Are you sure?

Then they can go follow him to wherever his next destination is.

Unless he completely awakens in the playoffs there's no reason to keep this charade going on any longer.

That's why I did 14M but he has to defer to 12M artificial cap

16M more than Mikko Rantanen is nuts.

Utah and Chicago it's about 1.3-1.5M difference.
That tax calculator is raw nonsense. It is simply compares the marginal tax rate charged between two places and doesn't take into account tax avoidance strategies like foundations, deductions, etc. IOW it's garbage.

it sounds like you actually do care
Thankfully I'm not the subject of the thread.

I guess the best way to explain the appearance of caring about one thing and not the other is that I do; I care about the outcome and wellbeing of the team, and I don't care about Marner's agent's (directed or not) greed or the idea that without Marner, our club can't be successful.

Does that sound reasonable?
