Marner needs an empty net point, or else his projection is just 105 points. Hes at risk to not reaching 100 points for the first time again. Meanwhile 9.5 million winger, Kucherov, is pacing just 130. A decrease from the 140+ he produced last year.
Don't bother mentioning Kucherov at 9.5M unless you adjust it for tax related projections. Without the adjustment it's just meaningless.
The Marner goal mattered, it won the game against Sweden.

Well, first the agent would remind you that while Marner does have a good case against those players, the Kucherov/Rantanen contracts and whatever you think those players are right now isn't relevant here, as they aren't on UFA contracts, and the contracts they are on are based on what they were 6-9 years ago.
Then, the agent would question what range of players of Marner's caliber signed for 10-11.5% of the cap. They would be pretty insulted by you offering less than Nylander's cap hit percentage. They'd be happy to explain all the ways in which Marner is one of the best players in the league, but suggest that if you want to talk individual comparables, that you use actual UFAs and first explain why Marner deserves less than Panarin got 6 years ago - which would be 13.65m this summer.

But I'm still holding out for 12.5x8 which would make Mitch the first player in franchise history to sign a 100 Million Dollar contract. And I'd sell to him and his team like that too!!!

Our current core is not close to winning. And if it is another first round exit or a short exit in round two. Does it even make sense to bring them back and HOPE they will do it in the future?
Thats the question. They can all make 14mil/yr, if they actually won back to back to back Cups. The fact that they had won ONE series in the past EIGHT playoffs is a red flag.
It's always been about cap hit percentage for every player. We just tend to notice it more in the upper range, and especially when there's big increases in the cap like this.
I'd love for Marner to give us a discount, but it's easy to say that as a fan from the outside. We're not the ones that would be throwing away millions of dollars. Realistically, most people want to be paid what they've earned like everybody else. They make a lot of money, but it's also a short, risky career, and it could be over in an instant.
