Good game but I gotta see playoff wins. Hope no contract issued until they go deep and they better go freaking deep this year
Yes we heard you for the millionth time... Take a short break. Playoffs are not for couple months.
We all are waiting for playoffs, no need to say "but playoffs" in every frickin post you make....

all the posts about how this wasn't the playoffs come 24-72 hrs after (the)waves of posts about how this tournament was exactly like the playoffs which explained MM's ineffectiveness, the demotion, the word choices of the head coach

The hypocrisy never ceases. It's why some of the commentary is more psychological defect than any discussion about hockey, it's just masquerading itself. Some guys offer sound critiques, then there is this obsessive posting. It's just sad, but that's social media.

Give a listen to Marner post game, made some good comments about this moving forward, Matthews and finally winning something.

Terrific game from Mitch.

1. If you can't admit that and cheer him on you're not a fan, you're a troll. I've long believed he should be moved, that doesn't mean I don't know he's a great player and cheer him on.

2. I've always felt his playoff issues are between the ears. The crap people spew about too small, too slow, weak shot, etc is just that. If he's confident he's a tremendous player, no matter the opponent/intensity/physicality/whatever else.

Hopefully this gives him a boost of confidence for the next time he's in a big game with the Leafs.

Happy for Mitch and happy for Canada. It was a great game. He made a couple of sweet plays at the right time. Hopefully this gives him some much needed confidence going forward. He will need to do alot of the heavy lifting in the playoffs if they want to make an impact.

Lmao, he can't do it. He tried, but he couldn't give a compliment without a biased statement thereafter.

Being biased: "Meaning they have a prejudice or preconceived notion that influences their judgement, preventing them from considering a situation objectively".

Must have a rough life at home, thoughts and prayers they can find happiness without being negative all the time, especially when good things happen.

That was a really good interview. Possibly my favorite of his. It sounded like he's been battling with confidence issues tbh, seems like this has really taken some weight off his shoulders. Hopefully it translates into another level when he puts on the blue and white.

Agreed, he was quite candid. We saw a poise in key moments that was encouraging.

I think this tourney puts to bed the argument that these guys can’t get it done. Marners sudden redemption after nearly being crucified is proof that all it takes is 1 deep run to change the narrative. Hopefully Marner, and Matthews, take this moment as a stepping stone towards what will be Maple Leafs playoff success.
I don’t think it does. Marner and Matthew’s are the go to’s on the leafs. For Canada Marner is option 4 on go to’s while Matthews was behind the thkachuks and arguable eichel(finals was not a good showing for Eichel)We’ll see how they do in the playoffs.

Just for the record this is not meant to be hating on either of them I’m just cautious as there roles in Toronto vs there national team are different.

Hopefully he's seeing a sports psychologist, or if not starts.

People talk a lot about MacKinnon's incredible improvement from his first few years. Lots of reasons are given, mostly to do with his crazy work ethic, but as far as I'm concerned reason number 1 is he started seeing a sports psychologist and got himself in the right headspace.

When have they ever done that? UFA players are almost always an overpay.
Someone is going to pay Rantanen 15+

I really hope it's not the Leafs because if it were here, I dont think it ends up being pretty!

I'd rather have Mitch at 13ish, because I really don't see his production falling off for another 6 or 7 years. The contract will be a value deal by year 4. Hopefully he becomes a 30-65 guy with a cup or two thrown in!

I mean the other alternative is overcoming the insurmountable resistance to admitting being WRONG.

Honestly, the capacity to do so is practically a superpower in today's world.

This is exactly it. This was a 4 game tournament, playoffs are a marathon. Success here means nothing as far as success goes in the playoffs, where they will be the main focal points. We can only hope that they gained confidence from this and bring it with them.

Nah, the Tkachuk brothers probably were the reason for the uptick in intensity. Love them or hate them, they brought it

Whichever one it is they are a great add. Neither of them is a leading man imo, but think of them, either one. as Doc Holiday to Wyatt Earp. The perfect sidekick. Either of them would be a great with the Leafs.

Knies 34 Brady big bad and scary around the net.

Just a small point to add

The supporting cast is now a lot better than in years previous, although I still think they're a defenceman short. Jarnkrok is almost ready and will almost certainly play on the 3rd line, while not great in the circle he plays the centre's position pretty well. So in that regard he may be the solution to that problem.

Mitch can dish and he made 2 absolute gems to create 2 goals including game winner .. we were stuck for offense half way through game and Coop went back to Mitch and he came through .. give him all da credit in da world .. there is no Canadian win last night without those 2 dishes .. also big time play from Binner .. bottom line he outgoalied Hellybuck

Marner did have a great game but the scenario was flipped. It wasn't the hard hitting passionate playoff game we thought. It was a very tight game with limited checking and little passion vs MTL game. That kind of game happens too and it was high level.
It was pretty similar to the other USA game outside of the fights in the first 10 seconds. It was a big moment, high pressure, passionate, tight checking game, that looked exactly like a game 7 playoff game.
I am not sold he can do it when two teams hate each other and come out like they mean it
That's literally what just happened.
They both had major impact on victory. Without a doubt Mitchy did what he does best, peel off into a safe open space. When it works, it's beautiful, but he doesn't have the other side of the game to go to the net, the hard side of the game. Doesn't mean he isn't a very good valuable player, the question has always been, value vs money. He and dad have priced him in a zone where most people say he doesn't belong. Next contract, at 12m, he is a hero, a guy you need and want. At 14.5...goodbye. If Knies demands 10.5 next deal, same issue, he has the tough side of the game but not as much intuitive side. Suddenly fans will change their mind, and he doesn't gave his daddy involved publically.
Lol. You guys will go to any length to dismiss what he does. He's good at generating open space for himself and taking advantage of it, but he didn't "peel off into safe open space". He skated into the middle of the offensive zone and drew multiple opponents to him on his first primary assist. On the second, it's his job to grab the pass around the boards. He did, and made a great pass to the slot. He also went to the net a bunch, but there's also more places on the ice you can be effective from, and some people don't seem to get that. He's earned top tier money. I don't know where you got Knies at 10.5m from. That would be a crazy overpayment.

He had a clutch game, anyone that says otherwise is disingenuous. I've been a critic of re-signing him, and this hasn't swayed me; however it does give me hope that he can build on this in the playoffs this year. I'm happy for him, and glad he had a monster game and defended our national pride! Good on ya Mitch!

Also, I still think we should sign Bennett and let JT walk.

He had a great finals in the Four Nations Cup. Let's hope it translates into a great playoffs because that's all that matters. This wasn't the olympics which is more of a grind. NHL playoffs are a grind but Marner and Matthews were both able to find some space for once in such a tight game.
