Same goofy "fans" blaming one person for a team failure. If only Mitch would have saved those two leaky goals by Binnington.

Yeah once again - really didn't seem like this logic was present at all when folks were pretending like Marner scored a game 7 OT winner with his goal against Sweden.

And just to be clear, what I think is hypocritical is the application of importance of the tournament to Marner’s standing with the Maple Leafs.

I did not lose any sleep after the loss which tells me it was not do or die like the Olympics would be but this is not a glorified all-star game which is what I was hoping it would not be.

Will be interesting to see how the final plays out. These guys have to go back to work on Saturday.

Playoff style game to say the least, usa vs canada. Marner was completely invisible at 5 on 5. PP he made a few good passes. Marner will be passive vs physical teams in the playoffs, Ill pass on re-signing him. Use that 12-13 million and sign Bennett and another Tanev type of dman.

If reinhart and point connected on the tap ins that Mitch gave them we would have won the game.

He set up point in the lower play in the slot and he flubbed it

Marner did make some nice passes. There comes games like these where as a player you have go out and play outside of your comfort zone because everyone else is. Hughes has no issue taking or giving hits. Every player on the ice went out of their comfort zone. Mitch needs to figure out how to engage in physical play. Time and space works for Mitch he needs to figure out what to do with no time and space and change that mentality.

To be fair, the McDavid line barely had zone time. McDavid would make the entry try and take 3 guys on himself and would lose the puck. Reinhart and Marner spent more time back checking yesterday than doing anything in the offensive zone. It just wasn’t in the zone long enough. Really they were only noticeable on the power play. And one time in the second where they made a few quick plays and McDavid threw it in front where Marner and Reinhart were. Other than that, the play was dying early in the offensive zone.

It was a bit more important than the last game as faras the tournament goes. For Canada, the game against the Finns is even more important.

That's a grim reality. I share your opinion and have done since the Columbus series.

What's most heartbreaking to me is, after they re-sign Marner and Tavares, it's going to be another 3 years at least doing the same thing. Then another 5 or so rebuilding. We ain't winning a cup in the next decade or so. That'll push us close to the 70 year mark. Millions and millions of people living their whole lives not seeing a Leafs Cup.

It is why I would have told Ferris to go f*** himself when he asked for Draisaitl money. Laughable Ferris can ask with a straight face. They have no shame. Just give me more money so I can buy another jet ski for the cottage.

We need a couple of Tom Wilsons who could compliment the forwards. You then have Knies and McMann in the mix and this team can score difficult goals and the defense can make life more difficult for opposing forwards.

Look at JT Miller last night,, fighting a big dude, knowing he is going to lose but seeing what the Tkachuk brothers did he felt the need to back them up, he felt guilty of not doing the same so he took the fight. That's what teams rally around when the games get tight and difficult.

Leafs management and ownership will keep this team outside of the Cup Finals, that's the way the cookie crumbles when born in Toronto.

When Marner scores a big goal, that goal means nothing because it was in overtime in an international tournament and it should have no bearing on his contract.

When his line is quiet in a loss, now he doesn’t show up in the biggest games and it’s we should get rid of him and not sign him.

Stop moving the goalposts and you can’t pick and choose when these games matter.

I have never once said it's a glorified all-star game. I've said it would be high-octane hockey since last year and have been the biggest supporter of Four Nations on the main board. It's the only hockey I've been looking forward to all year cause I know what the Leafs will do.

And I also gave credit to Marner for little things last game when others weren't. The OT goal was sweet too.

But we should always be fair when a player does poorly. He was bad. Were others bad? Sure. But he wasn't good either and it matches what we've seen in the past from him.

He's doing what he does, he's created 6 easy tap-in's over the last two games that his linemates have not buried on. He's working his ass off defensively. Gotta say, I'm not seeing a massive difference between MacKinnon's, McDavids, Crosby impact and Marner's impact, Marner has clearly been the better player of course. There is only one player with a winning goal for Canada, just sayin'.

I thought Sid was pretty bad last night but he was one of our best forwards by xGF%, I suppose the turnover for the goal sticks out, and a few other bad plays with the puck. Marner was our worst I think at 5v5 xGF% but not really to blame for a 5v5 goal against. I thought he played ok, in the desired cap paradigm where players' per game salary is determined by their ranking in the league's hierarchy of top players he would have definitely deserved to drop a few spots

Pretty much describes how I feel. It was a good game, but I still don't care too much who wins in the end. Like I hope we beat Finland but even if we lose it's not that big a deal.

Why hasn't the amateur and the professional scouting staff done a better job to find talented bottom of the lineup players to? There is a fallacy in your assumption that the big 4 are getting paid too much. Your theory is if the big 4 take less, management will allocate those funds to better of the bottom line up talent. What is their history with bottom of the line up higher ticket players, Domi and Reaves give you the warm fuzzies do they?

Get away from binary thinking, we have a more balanced Cap hit so there fore we must have a more balanced line up, that is not a given, not at all. Just because X happens it does dont mean the outcome is pre ordained to be better.

Interesting. I realized a long time ago that these x% stats aren't good at all for evaluating players so every time I read something like this I just nod my head and go yup.

These stats are absolutely fine for evaluating teams but players, nope.
