He wasn’t asked to waiveMM like a week or two ago.
Also how many players got NTC or NMC from the Leafs in the last 10 years.

Are you blaming Treliving for not trading Marner before his NTC kicked in? I think Treliving was hired about a week prior to the NTC kicking in, and Shanahan basically just let go of Dubas for suggesting it was time to make changes. Treliving had neither the time or blessing to trade Marner. Why did Marner get 2 years protection when Matthews and Nylander only had their final years protected iirc.
Dubas never had that kind of power.Except I didn't say it was Treliving's fault for not trading Marner.
A player is only eligible for a NTC when they turn 27. So because of the length of term of his contract Matthews only had the last year with trade protection. Nylander had two years of official trade protection same as Marner but Nylander also received that verbal promise from Dubas that he wouldn't be traded.
Dubas should have traded Marner instead.
And that’s one reason why he wont sign a short term deal this time.I just hope if they do sign Marners it's a short deal like 12x3 because with his speed issues I think he is going to be wasted by around 32.
Plus he hasnt gone thru the physical abuse mathews hasAnd that’s one reason why he wont sign a short term deal this time.
Matthews has been physical abused? Matthews injured something when he got tied up with McAvoy last year in the playoffs, but he’s far from abused.Plus he hasnt gone thru the physical abuse mathews has
If the leafs ever get past a second round he may just get really hurt
Why hasnt he negotiated this year? How much is that worth to him? 1 million, 2 million per year? If Rantenan set his market at 12.5, should he accept 11.5 now? With a baby on the way around the same time, I can't see them wanting to uproot and go somewhere else, away from their families. This is one of the intangibles that will be considered, the timing works for staying imo.

Mathews has had way more physical contact than marnerMatthews has been physical abused? Matthews injured something when he got tied up with McAvoy last year in the playoffs, but he’s far from abused.
The only threat Marner has of getting injured is if he gets hit with the puck or catches a rut.
Because they said they weren’t going to? Seems pretty simple. Our internal cap structure, he isn’t accepting 11.5, I don’t know why we even float these numbers. I’m fine with 13, given the cap increase coming, looks affordable for sure. Why hasnt he negotiated this year? How much is that worth to him? 1 million, 2 million per year? Rantanen needs Mack to produce. Very much like Nylander is a minus player without Matthews while Marner is always positive. Rantanen and Nylander are one level below Marner because while they produce a lot offense their defence is even worse.Rantanen only got 12M. Not sure why Marner goes above Rantanen when he shouldn't even be equal to him.
It’s such an odd situation like a lot of his time here off ice. There must be something more than just “not wanting the distraction” but that’s certainly not apparent. With a baby on the way around the same time, I can't see them wanting to uproot and go somewhere else, away from their families. To make up for state income that seems to bother everyone, of course, he’d have to concede the annual bonus payments where they get 1/2 the contract in July.Rantanen only got 12M. Not sure why Marner goes above Rantanen when he shouldn't even be equal to him.

The max cap is affordable. Why does he get more than Rantenan, especially if staying home means more to him?Because they said they weren’t going to? Seems pretty simple. decline with age would be more likely if his production was based around his speed and athleticismI just hope if they do sign Marners it's a short deal like 12x3 because with his speed issues I think he is going to be wasted by around 32.
Ask Matthews and Nylander? He’s getting 13 on 8, as he should, given what Matthews got on a 4 year deal. It’s fine to argue what he’s worth, I simply look at the internal structure, he’s getting more than Nylander and close to Matthews, which is fair by our metrics. We will never get out of the Dubas debacle, not with this core. The max cap is affordable. Why does he get more than Rantenan, especially if staying home means more to him?

Short sample? It's the last 5 years. Now 4 points in 5 games, that's a short sample. Here's a short sample, Rantanen got 1 point in the 4 nations and 6 points in 13 games with Carolina. I wouldn't go drawing conclusions from that but 5 years is NOT a short sample.Give me a break..he NEEDS, short sample and this narrative is so deceptive it belongs in the trash. He is almost double the playoffs performer of Marner!
Rantanen is already back up to 4pts in 5 games adjusting to his new team.. Necas is performing the same as when in CAR in COL.
The real narrative should be, why cant Marner produce as well as Rantanen with the best goal scorer in the NHL.

This has nothing to do with Necas.
Why can't Marner produce with Matthews when Matthews' shooting percentage goes from 16% to 4%. Hmm, I wonder.
Two $13+m forwards were on full display last night. Neither was named Marner. This guy is allergic to dirty areas. Leaves all the heavy lifting in the corners to 23 and 34 while he floats around the perimeter waiting for the puck. Makes Nylander look like Wendel Clarke. The intellectual answer I think is. 3 wrongs make a right. We need to embrace self crippling contracts more to improve the odds of winning. This is where we are at.
