Are you blaming Treliving for not trading Marner before his NTC kicked in? I think Treliving was hired about a week prior to the NTC kicking in, and Shanahan basically just let go of Dubas for suggesting it was time to make changes. Treliving had neither the time or blessing to trade Marner. Why did Marner get 2 years protection when Matthews and Nylander only had their final years protected iirc.

Except I didn't say it was Treliving's fault for not trading Marner.

Nylander had two years of official trade protection same as Marner but Nylander also received that verbal promise from Dubas that he wouldn't be traded.

Dubas should have traded Marner instead.

Matthews has been physical abused? Matthews injured something when he got tied up with McAvoy last year in the playoffs, but he’s far from abused.
The only threat Marner has of getting injured is if he gets hit with the puck or catches a rut.

With a baby on the way around the same time, I can't see them wanting to uproot and go somewhere else, away from their families. This is one of the intangibles that will be considered, the timing works for staying imo.

Mathews has had way more physical contact than marner
Even the act of stripping a puck clean isnt easy against a 220 lbs man

Because they said they weren’t going to? Seems pretty simple. Our internal cap structure, he isn’t accepting 11.5, I don’t know why we even float these numbers. I’m fine with 13, given the cap increase coming, looks affordable for sure.

Rantanen needs Mack to produce. Very much like Nylander is a minus player without Matthews while Marner is always positive. Rantanen and Nylander are one level below Marner because while they produce a lot offense their defence is even worse.

It’s such an odd situation like a lot of his time here off ice. There must be something more than just “not wanting the distraction” but that’s certainly not apparent.

To make up for state income that seems to bother everyone, of course, he’d have to concede the annual bonus payments where they get 1/2 the contract in July.
What is having the baby close to home worth to him? Will h concede some money, or does it mean he wants to stay if you pay him what others would pay on the open market?

Rantanen is already back up to 4pts in 5 games adjusting to his new team.. Necas is performing the same as when in CAR in COL or maybe a little less. But wait if Necas is the same or performing less...AHH that's right.

The real narrative should be, why cant Marner produce as well as Rantanen with the best goal scorer in the NHL.

decline with age would be more likely if his production was based around his speed and athleticism

They are saying Rantanen is the product of Mack. Necas is performing the same or worse though. Mack has magic powers improving only players that they want to use as an example to reason out why Marner deserves more money.

Short sample? It's the last 5 years. Now 4 points in 5 games, that's a short sample. Here's a short sample, Rantanen got 1 point in the 4 nations and 6 points in 13 games with Carolina. I wouldn't go drawing conclusions from that but 5 years is NOT a short sample.

Marner has hardly ever if ever outpaced Rantanen.

It's a dishonest argument and you know it. Rantanen is a very good player not the product of Mack. He does not have a 1.2p/GP in the playoffs by being a dependent.

Two $13+m forwards were on full display last night. Neither was named Marner. This guy is allergic to dirty areas. Leaves all the heavy lifting in the corners to 23 and 34 while he floats around the perimeter waiting for the puck. Makes Nylander look like Wendel Clarke.

You know it my man. I just don't like the dishonesty coming with it. Rantanen is not a good player without Mack takes the cake. Necas is pretty much where he was before he was traded and Rantanen after having the rug pulled twice is getting up to speed quick.

Overpaying just because is another silly one. Its just not cool to create weird narratives.
