It's time to start moving him down the lineup

I don't care what Matthews and Marner want

It isn't working and it's time to try things now before things go right off the rails

I would consider taking him off of the top PP first. He has been a problem for far too long, and we can't point to Malhotra or anyone else, because other than Matthews (who hasn't been separated from Marner yet), everyone has looked better on units that did not have Marner on them.

Marner has no purpose on a PP. He sucks as a bumper. Hasn't looked good there at all, and his shot makes him useless in any spot besides the top of the 1-3-1 or a 1-2-2, where he can be the puck distributor.

I would give him more time at ES. He sucked today, and looked like he doesn't deserve more than the one pity assist he has thus far, but he has looked better there in other games and one would hope he and Matthews can figure him out.

EDIT: To clarify, I mean more time to figure it out at ES before changing it up... Obviously not give him more minutes at ES. His ice time should be reduced.

Keefe has the same dilemma Dubas saw himself in. Dubas could've let him sit the season and we would've been without one of our best players. Keefe can bench him, then we're down one of our best players. Do you let him play himself out of it? I think he comes from a generation where a benching might make things worse.

He'll sulk on the bench and pout. Not sure it will set a fire under him. Seems like only money was his motivating factor.

He's become the most hated and it's all on him. Blame Dubas all you want and you should, but Marner is not close to earning even half his contract right now.
This isn't a novel observation, but it really is staggering how, at least on HF, the perception of him did a complete 180. Like even for myself, I remember that first series against Washington and thinking Marner was gonna be a warrior in the playoffs for us, and now half a decade later I kinda want him off the team entirely.

I just don't see any other way beyond having Marner on the flank of either Matthews or Tavares. Good to have the third and four lines producing tonight. The three goals for should have been enough to ensure somewhat of a better fate too (at least 1 pt). A team's highest paid players still have to lead the way often enough though. Happy to see Tavares pot his first of the season here.

I personally knew when matthews and then marner got the contracts that they got, it was game over. Sure you could say that it’s hindsight now, but I really thought that at the time. The Matthew deal was still too much AAV, and it was only 5 yrs!! You needed to bridge them. Dubas has failed wonderfully at his job, and will face the eventual consequences when they arrive.

Then he is gone by the end of this year, and if that doesn't light a fire under his ass, then we should want nothing to do with him anyways.

Tavares at least gives a damn every game, and he gets to the areas where he gets rewarded (like he was today). Nylander has been excellent. Matthews goes without saying. Marner is the weakest link out of the top and he should be feeling the heat.

His supporters on this board are starting to sweat.... they're banking on you Mitch, and your reallllly making them look bad. They can only say "just you wait, Marner will make you eat crow" for so long you know.
I am sure that it's Paul Marner and he has multiple accounts to support his son. No sane person can believe that he deserves that contract.
