Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

I still think a reunion with Kadri makes sense.

NHL players are biggest fish in the small Calgary pond.

No competition from NBA players, or NFL players, or MLB players.

NHL players are Titans in Calgary, while only gods in other cities.

I’ve seen it here a couple of times. I’ll try to find it. It’s just Paul saying something like how it “drives them nuts” about how the pundits never include Mitch as a captain candidate and how he feels Mitch has earned that. Nothing wrong with him saying it though imo.

It’s in here but it’s from longer ago then I had thought. Marner's agent tries to put out fire from Maple Leafs 'lowball' comments

Paul was interviewed by the Athletic (NY Times)
Yeah that was years ago. He hasn’t been involved really since the last negotiation. Completely irrelevant today.

It’s such a strange ploy too because any team that wants him is going to give him their big offer right away. There’s casual courtship phase in free agency from what we usually see. Players get gobbled up right at the opening.
Ya a normal person would think that but I’m guessing with his giant ego he feels it will drive interest. It used to happen all the time with home sales and still does with surprising frequency

Frankly, Paul's comments there are not that big of a deal. I can accept those and think his concern about Mitch's perception as a kid were legitimate, though I prefer the family of a player keep their damned mouths shut and not talk to reporters.

Good, no reason to take a meeting. It's honestly insane we're being offered one, what does Marner want to gain from this lol
I’m sure the media just worded it that way for effect, seems to have worked.
Of course they would meet again

Was it even true that Tre offered marner 13.5 million? Who reported this?
Did we hear a single peep out of anyone before Matthews and Nylander deals were announced? Not a single leak until the deals were announced.

There is no direct evidence of any such offer ever being made. That might be nothing more than a number Darren Ferris floated out there from their side as an ask perhaps and now being leaked to reporters with the intention to all outside UFA bidders to match (no low ball offers). A simple negotiating ploy.

When you type "Treliving attempted to re-sign Marner" into google it returns.

While the Maple Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, has expressed a desire to keep Mitch Marner, it appears that Marner is headed for free agency after contract talks did not materialize. Despite Treliving stating, "we want Mitch here for a long time", Marner declined to engage in contract negotiations and did not waive his no-move clause for a trade at the deadline. This situation leaves the Leafs with the possibility of losing Marner without receiving any compensation.

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving was non-committal Thursday on re-signing Mitch Marner ahead of the star winger reaching unrestricted free agency on July 1. “We're in that process right now," Treliving said at his end-of-season availability after praising Marner as a tremendous player.

Nothing in there remotely suggests any term nor amount ever exited in talks that NEVER materialized.,

Don't believe me then type it into google search yourself.

Here are the direct snapshots to back up the above.

He had the sheer will at one time but I think he realized he could get just as much money without it. There was an early series vs Boston when he hit Chara, blocked some big shots and had some big goals / points.

There was so much hope back then.
Looking back at that time we all thought they were on the right path. I honestly think he either was told not to bother playing like that or it hurt too much after the game that he made the decision.

That was his playoff moment in Leafs jersey and no one can take it away from him.

What is even the purpose of the meeting when the player has been non communicative to the team up to this point? One last chance to get bent over a barrel?

I don’t want Marner back. But if the team wants him back I think the least you would expect would be an open channel and good faith communication. No evidence of that here and if they’re just engineering childish pressure points.

Found out there is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Paul wanted him to be Gilmour and tried hard to get him to play like Gilmour and tried to sell him as a Gilmour early in his career. It almost worked too... the media was eating it up. I have no idea how Marner and Dougie were ever in the same sentence...because there are NO similarities. Mitch has always been all skill and no heart.

Even watch the video produced by the local TV station when Marner was like 11 or 12.

Its a must win game in an important tourny and Paul Marner makes a comment about Marner not skating hard and not trying hard enough. After the game Paul says what are we gonna tell Mom Mitch..... and Mitch "responds, that we lost. I dont care"

Marner has never had that "dawg" in him. Ever.

No reason for a July meeting. Only reason to do it now is to see if Marner is open to shopping himself before July 1 for a sign-and-trade.
All the reports have suggested he is very much against the idea, he's walking to July 1st. He'll give us a meeting like all the other teams who want to sign him

Hope Tre tells him to f*** off
I would sign marner without NMC
Then trade him
That is the move
That would be great, sign him and count the days till you can deal him. Unfortunately, he will never sign without an NMC

Nor will he ever sign in Toronto tbh, the toxicity around this whole situation is too much. Treliving has tried to trade him on multiple occasions + the fans were booing him in his last game as a leaf
