Was it even true that Tre offered marner 13.5 million? Who reported this?
Did we hear a single peep out of anyone before Matthews and Nylander deals were announced? Not a single leak until the deals were announced.
There is no direct evidence of any such offer ever being made. That might be nothing more than a number Darren Ferris floated out there from their side as an ask perhaps and now being leaked to reporters with the intention to all outside UFA bidders to match (no low ball offers). A simple negotiating ploy.
When you type "Treliving attempted to re-sign Marner" into google it returns.
While the Maple Leafs general manager, Brad Treliving, has expressed a desire to keep Mitch Marner, it appears that Marner is headed for free agency
after contract talks did not materialize. Despite Treliving stating, "we want Mitch here for a long time", Marner
declined to engage in contract negotiations and did not waive his no-move clause for a trade at the deadline. This situation leaves the Leafs with the possibility of losing Marner without receiving any compensation.
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager
Brad Treliving was non-committal Thursday on re-signing Mitch Marner ahead of the star winger reaching unrestricted free agency on July 1. “We're in that process right now," Treliving said at his end-of-season availability after praising Marner as a tremendous player.
Nothing in there remotely suggests any term nor amount ever exited in talks that NEVER materialized.,
Don't believe me then type it into google search yourself.
