Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Are you a tax expert? Just asking because reading about JT’s tax problem he was under the impression that he only had to pay 15% tax all in since it was bonus money and some U S Canadian treaty. I think that would be lower than Florida even though they have no state tax, they still have federal tax, where I’ve seen could be as high as 37%
Yes and while the CRA went after him, it's likely he will get to keep that money. However that was only for his 15mil signing bonus, and not the entirety of his earnings in Toronto. The salary cap just does not play nicely with the Canadian tax system.

I want Mitchy to stay, but that ship has sailed, can we all set a time on June 30 to sing cumbiaw and a chorus of bye bye Mitchy...don't let the door hit ye butt on the way out...you whiney spoiled brat.
He turned on a coach, then his team mates, then the press, then the fans...watch out Mrs Mitchy..
If I can wake the f*** up in time, I will sing "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye ".

Na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye

Go on and kiss him goodbye, na na na na, na na na
Na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye

I believe you misspoke and meant to say "Signing" him hurts any future cup potential.
No, I spoke correctly and said losing him hurts any future cup potential, but no surprise you're putting words in people's mouths again.
The team that makes Marner the highest paid player in the game is about to sign the WORST contract in the NHL, if you're looking for return on investment and cup competitiveness.
With the rising cap, it won't even be bad, let alone the "worst contract in the NHL". It's going to give whatever team gets him a boost, at our expense.
I'm just so grateful my GM Treliving is not that foolish and naive and knows when to walk away.
He didn't walk away. He's been trying to sign him. He's just so foolish that he screwed it up.
So tell me, how marner’s 14 million salary makes Leafs better?
It prevents us from losing one of the best players in the league and getting worse.

I don't ignore playoff performance. I just also don't ignore the other 99% of relevant information in order to focus exclusively on one specific stat without context in the tiny sample of games where that one stat is most skewed by external factors and the vastly different situations players experience, like you do to make claims opposite of what the other 99% of information clearly shows.
There you have it, folks. Playoffs account for only 1% of hockey, and everything else means 99%. Florida only has to win 98 more Cups to celebrate being a legitimate champion.
Wouldn’t you agree the same applies to Matthew’s.
Marner is a passer Matthew’s is this elite generational goal scorer who disappears in the playoffs. You would think a player with all the accolades that Matthews has would at least be able to score in the playoffs.

We better hope Matthews is healthy next year because we won’t have that regular season marner to help us to the playoffs
Of course the same applies. Difference is Matthews still has three years on his deal to prove otherwise.

You may not replace him in the regular season with two nickels but in the playoffs 2 nickels easily replaces one penny.
Yup, that's kind of what I was getting at. In a vacuum, we will not be replacing Mitch with an equal talent. Or even come remotely close TBH. But we clearly do not need more "talent". We need to find ways to finish big moments. Something Mitch has never shown any propensity for.

You look back at the most successful Maple Leafs teams in the past 3 decades, and they were always teams with workmen like attitudes. Guys willing to do whatever it took. I am not suggesting Mitch doesn't' work hard at his craft, but it is very clear that he struggles to bring his game to the biggest stage. I think it is time to move on. I just hope some of the cats make it to free agency and we can bring in proven winners who know exactly what it is going to take.

I agree with much of your post... but what exactly did he accomplish as a Leaf?
5th all time in Pts scored
4th all time in Assists

All while doing that in far less games than the ones above him on those lists.

I can't stand Mitch at this point. Everything about him pisses me off TBH. But at the end of the day he statistically has been one of the best Maple Leafs of all time. You can't really deny that IMO.

He also has every right to do exactly what he is doing. I just have no time for his nonsense about always being for the team after what he's pulled during this "negotiation". He is full of shit.

Well we really don’t want to replace him with a single player. Moving away from 4 guys making half the cap is a good thing.

I understand that you like deflecting when called out for improperly representing statements.

Not to mention he'll receive court costs iif they rule in his favour.

He showed up when it mattered: Dallas won the series and Rantanen was considered the MVP of the series. I think that is all anyone cares about.
They lost to Edmonton in 5 and he had 3 assists. That is when it mattered most. It was a Jekyll and Hyde playoffs for him

Get that late series Colorado Rantanen and you beat FLA. Get the earlier series Col, late WPG series or EDM series Rantanen and were sitting here wondering where he went
