Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Has to be just a dumb strategy from his camp floating the "wait until mid-July" rumour Dreger that puppet is floating out there. More than teams not wanting to wait, if every suitor but one drops out and spends their money elsewhere, the last team standing will be able to "lowball" Mitch and he'll get less than he wants/thinks he deserves.

Teams don’t get their info from Dreger, they’ll get it from the agent.

Failure has been our management team not lock up players before big years or before their contracts were up.

I was screaming that they should have offered Knies 5/6 million before the season started at 6 years. We did nothing…we are our own worst enemy.
Agreed, but if the players dont want to sign... they can't be forced.

Didn't this reportedly happen to a player in the past? Where they just plain waited to long and settled on a worse contract?

Dreger is a puppet for Ferris and the Marner camp. Assuming teams are following the rules and aren't talking to the Marner camp lest they get hit with a tampering fine, this is the (dis)information they want out there.

Lol... this is completely false. Agents are known to float info to the press as a pressure tactic. Such as Marner being rumored to want to be on his way to Matthews ex Swiss team. Interestingly, it looks like Ferris has a history of using this tactic:

I'd say one we've discussed here is the Klingberg situation.

  • Players who may have regretted their decisions:
Players like John Klingberg, who turned down a large contract, or Elias Lindholm, who reportedly turned down a significant offer, may have regretted their decisions as their subsequent contracts were less lucrative.

Happened to Franson too. He was very peeved with his agent for recommending he turn down the Leafs deal for UFA....cost him millions.

Are you suggesting?

Hertl, Eichel and Theodore?
I certainly think birds of a feather. M&M cast a Frick & Frack vibe. I could see Vegas as a destination eventually for both.

As for a return, I’d certainly look at those you’ve mentioned.

Unlikely (i.e. Theodore) given Pietrangelo’s potential state on the team.

Im not a Marner fan... but it makes sense not to. Pretty sure the car was a endorsement type deal with the local Land Rover dealership, and he would have had insurance. Why risk snitching and being potentially targeted by Toronto gangs for a car that cost you nothing and can be replaced easily?

So what you’re saying is he avoided putting himself at risk of harm when doing so would have helped the people around him. I swear I’ve seen him do that before.

Feschuk crossed a few ethical lines during the Phaneuf / Kessel years that just weren't right.

But I've grown to become indifferent with Simmons - he's annoying, but he's the only one that asks actual tough questions of these guys nowadays, and seems to be the only one who doesn't care about "access".

His question to Marner at the EOY presser (have you ever just taken a step back and considered why this team keeps failing year after year - paraphrased) was an excellent question
Well, Marner is taking more than a step back, he's walking out the door knowing he's one of the biggest problems.

That was not really what was reported. It was much less certain than him telling him they were "safe"

The report from Chris Johnson said this:

"Shanahan phoned each of the Leafs top players to share the news on Kyle Dubas and that those players came away from those conversations believing that Shanahan's intention is to bring the entire core 4 back"

I wonder what Shanahan said to the core 4 at the time..."If any of you need a safe space, I got a spare room in my house with extra pajamas and a teddy bear..."? :sarcasm:

Kane and Toews didn't get paid cause of their regular season success. If you can't see how it actually is that's your problem, don't project your own ignorance onto others.
Ignorance is in the eye of the beholder, I see your reply as uniquely ignorant.

Kane who was a career PPG+ player, a 100+ point player, was not paid for his regular season contributions? Ignorant.

Toews who was a Selke winner and came top 3 three times, scored 25 goals or more 7 times, was not paid for regular season contributions. Ignorant.

Elite players are paid for regular season performance, full stop. That is a fact, full stop. To see it any other way is ignorant. What perhaps you and some other misinformed fans can't grasp is players who are paid elite money for elite regular season performance are expected to continue that elite performance in the playoffs because they are elite players. Their salary has nothing to do with the playoffs.

What if Marner is really planning on holding out until training camp again. 🤔🤔
It would only hurt him, teams have to build a roster and cant leave 12 to 14 mil of cap space till camp, just in case Mitch wants to sign with them. Contenders like to be close to a finished product before Aug 1st
