Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

There's 2 names on that list that would ask anything resembling an awkward question that couldn't be answered in cliches and hyperbole (Simmons and Rosie).

Long gone are the days where Berger and Feschuk would show up to pressers with metaphorical knives - it's also likely why neither of them work on the beat anymore.

I wonder what Howie is up to now. What a useless POS he is.

The warning signs were there...both Dubas and Shanny were soft as butter, and incompetent at building a championship team...Marner should have been traded after the Montreal series when he was crying in the penalty box...what kind of hockey player cries in the penalty box of a game 6 when your team is still in the game, and up 3-2 in the series? I could understand crying over losing the Cup in the finals, but that?
He should have been traded after the Columbus series. Lol.

I can't think of a player that has ever received such bad advice.
I know he's as dumb as a bag of hammers but he must see how this could turn out to be a really bad idea and so unnecessary.
Hopefully it all works out.
Even you seem to be finally po’d lol! Always said he was a good player, just not worth what he is asking, We should get away from being a core 4 team anyway. With 2 locked up and JT taking a big paycut , Mitch is the odd man out.

I've always been consistent in my thoughts.

Treliving tried to trade away Marner multiple times and even ask him to waive his NMC which apparently has bruised Marner's ego. Nothing in more clear then actions speaking louder than words that BT prefers to move on..

You can bet Leafs will not be waiting on the line for Marner and busy trying to find replacement players addressing the new DNA issues.

The Marner camp makes it seem like they're going out there to collect all offers and then give the Leafs one last chance to meet or beat it... Talk about being tone death and misreading the room.

This is not a Stephen Stamkos type situation where TB gave him a best final offer a few years ago, and then after checking UFA offers had a chance to return to his own team and accept the contract..

There is no contract offer on the table for Marner to consider from the Leafs.
Maybe Mitch is doing us a favour, teams may well wait for him so we may be able to pickup other players that would like to settle their future as soon as possible.

No idea - he finally blocked me on Twitter about 4 years ago. It was bothering me that I didn't get to experience the Leafs Twitter Right of Passage with him and Damien Cox until much later than everyone else.

LOL. I remember a poster years back "reporting" on how Berger had been canned and was seen walking out with boxes. Him and Feschuk deserve either other (Cox and Simmons too).

Feschuk crossed a few ethical lines during the Phaneuf / Kessel years that just weren't right.

But I've grown to become indifferent with Simmons - he's annoying, but he's the only one that asks actual tough questions of these guys nowadays, and seems to be the only one who doesn't care about "access".

His question to Marner at the EOY presser (have you ever just taken a step back and considered why this team keeps failing year after year - paraphrased) was an excellent question

I remember back when the Leafs were courting Tavares to TO as a UFA that they put on a big PowerPoint presentation (a digital slideshow format, commonly used for visual communication and presentations) and even included Marner (as a prop) in that selling him as JT future winger in their recruitment process.

Sounds like Marner wants teams to court him now similarly. Explaining not only his $$ financial reward, but his fit on the team, his expected role and even get an all expenses paid guided tour of their city to sway his selection.

I imagine Marner's presentation won't dwell on what he's brought to the team during the playoffs.

Point is - whether you agree with it or not, the idea that Toronto is a tough/toxic/difficult market is now out there, no doubt reinforced by the fact that a 100-point homegrown local talent is walking away without as much as a conversation with the organization.
Another point to make, which contradicts that, is if you sign in Toronto then you will be able to make extra because of all the endorsements you will get, including commercials. But the problem is, that knobhead Bettman won’t allow teams to do that, when being able to do that would help offset the lower tax states.

As others have rightly pointed out - endorsement money isn't massive.

Cannot wait to have Mitch gone, someone else mentioned here that he is our Huberdeau, but sadly with more petulant and greedy. VGK please take him to the promise lands of 14.5x5

Safe to say such an elaborate presentation is not coming from the Leafs this time. :wg:

Reports are circulating the Leafs will be given once last chance with a phone call from the Marner camp during the recruiting process to bring him back.

Treliving should look at his call display, and simply let the phone ring unanswered.
MLSE when Marner calls:

I was surprised about the charity event being canceled.

Volunteers usually put quite a bit of unpaid effort and time into charity events.

The "administration" still gets paid, but strange canceling it.
Really, your surprised Mercenary Mitch cancelled. I’m disappointed but not surprised

Too bad all that good player goes out the window in big games. If he could keep it up all year including the playoffs I would give him 11 million
Except he doesn't no matter how much people want to make that a thing.
They’ll sign Marchand for 20 before Marner at 12.
They would not do that and no team would. No one would.

And they definitely would sign Marner if they have the cap space. Every team in this league would, don't be daft.
