Auston Mathews for USA and Willy Nylander of Sweden were named to their countries, and that wasn't pure luck on their parts, as I also believe those countries intended to pick their top 6 countrymen as well.

Marner is not consider the best in the World, because he wasn't even considered the best among Canadians only,

That all seems like perfectly reasonable logic to me.

So why didn't USA select the current reigning Hart Trophy winner, who is American?

Marner did the very same last contract.

In 2019, even though Matthews signed for 5 years. Marner wanted 3 years. It wasnt a 3 year bridge either. He wanted 3x11+ million. He was reportedly butt hurt Matthews got a short term deal and he easnt being offered it. Friedman reported this in 2019.

He wants 3 years once again this offseason. Dreger speculated on Overdrive that a Team said Marner would do a 3 year contract. He is of course determined for his terms to align with Matthews.

Leafs wont do it, because if they so.... there is NO way they win a cup by doing it.

Because.... in 3 years, 13.5 million Marner and 14.3 million Matthews will be up for new contracts AGAIN!!

Matthews - 18.5 million - from age 30 to 38
Marner 17 million from age 30 to 38

I have been watching sports for the better part of 30 years now and after what I have seen from Marner over the years, especially these last 12 months. I can safely say that he has to be the most tonedeaf athlete I have ever seen in ANY sport.

I did speculate in mid May that this may all be a negotiating ploy to play coy but it did seem like a breakup was happening after all.
