That is why I believe Marner needs to sign in Anaheim so that his young infant son can live his first 4 years going to Disneyland down the road.

Then when Marner tries to milk his new team in 4 years with a new contract, we have to factor in the horror of the impact of tearing his young son from Disneyland and uprooting a 4 year old from Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and of course the Country Bear Jamboree.

Even Marner wouldn't be that cruel to his own family just to chase top dollar. :wg:

Unfortunately Disneyland closed the Country Bears Jamboree and turned that area into a New Orleans bayouland. Although it’s OK it won’t be difficult to move the child away from it.

Sure, because they knew his personality and should have known they end up right where they are.
Treliving was forced to give him an another audition and, as expected, he failed, and had his worse playoff performance with the Leafs.

JD Bunkins said it best yesterday. After 9 years his playoff moment is a blocked shot in his second year.

It’s not for everyone. Some guys want to collect a paycheck and disappear into the background. Toronto is no more “poisonous” than any other major sports City.

Marner seems to be a little sensitive and not very bright. Toronto is obviously not for him, and that’s his right as a free agent to leave.

Point is - whether you agree with it or not, the idea that Toronto is a tough/toxic/difficult market is now out there, no doubt reinforced by the fact that a 100-point homegrown local talent is walking away without as much as a conversation with the organization.

Playoff hockey isn’t about Corsi. It’s a lot more physical than that. The Dubas method failed. Small fast skill guys don’t win playoff hockey. Marner is a small skilled medium fast guy.

Shanahan was good on the PR, Marketing side of the house. Updated logo, selling jerseys, ceremonies, political interviews, etc.

He failed on the ice. Rookie GM, loyalty to individuals over team, buying in to 4 forwards/half cap, consistently ignoring the patterns and signs, replacing the GM too late just when the NMC were set to kick in and new contracts required. Shanabad.

Marner would be the highest paid player on the Florida Panthers.

and is looking to make 4 AAV more than the highest player.

It'll be nice to watch Marner do zilch in the playoffs with a different team. Whoever gives him $13M+ will get "fair value".

He can help a Bubble team get in.
He can sell some tickets as well for a team that doesn't have many fans.
He provides great value for a team if your goal is ticket sales in the regular season.

He won't bring your team the Stanley Cup. Or more specifically his 13AAV is a NET negative for you to win a cup.

Many Owners would welcome him on their team.
 
Marner will be worth every penny to a team that has struggled to make the playoffs. Even 1 round of tickets and concessions they will make a killing. Also good for their fanbase

Marner’s issue has always been he is a non factor during games 5-7 of a series

I can’t see that changing especially if he’s counted on being the guy

He’s just too much of a perimeter player.

Even the 4 Nations tournament if you look at his two plays he scored the OT goal 3 on 3 where he usually thrives but is not part of a playoff game. Also his assist to McDavid on the winning goal he was again way out of the play and it was a great pass but we often rarely see that kind of defensive breakdowns in the playoffs against the good teams.

I think that's exactly what he's implying. After all, he still insists that Marner hasn't been overpaid the last 6 years, despite all the evidence.

I'm curious to know if he's just trolling, really believes that, or is just too firmly entrenched to admit he's wrong.

Unlike the Leafs I assume most teams have pro scouts who are actually good at their jobs. Surely they must do their research. All any of them have to do is come on this site and they'd know enough to avoid him like the plague that he is.

There's nothing good to say about Mitch Marner.

I don't expect it'll be too long before he turns his new organization and their fans against him. Once he starts throwing teammates under the bus and undermining the coach it'll happen. Then he'll blame the media, fans, and pretty much everyone else but himself for his own shortcomings.

One other thing I'm hearing about Marner, there's the possibility again; there's still two weeks who knows where it will end up. There is a chance this is not a July 1 thing, but his choice is to set up Zoom or in person meetings on July 1 or thereafter.

So Marner thinks that teams will put all of Free Agency on hold, just for the pleasure of being one of the teams who will bid on him?

That's some peak derangement and projection on Marner right there. Marner is still a top forward in this league, one of the best talents out there... plenty of teams would like one of the most talented players in the league on their team. Hell, if Marner was on another team, half of our fanbase would be crawling all over each other to sign him.

There is no question his play drops in the playoffs, and that we need to make changes, but your take isn't based in reality... it's just weird.

I dont think a playoff team can afford him without making their team worse depth wise.

I am not sure Marner on Chicago, Anaheim, or San Jose is enough to get them into the playoffs.
