Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Honestly, I am so indifferent to Marner resigning.

I want players who leave little doubt as to where they want to be. Look at Knies and JT for example. No p***y footing around what they want done. It's all about the team.

Plain and simple, if Mitch wanted to be a Leaf, the deal would be done already. As far as I am concerned, I would table an offer with an expiry date of June 30th. If he doesn't want to sign on the dotted line, he no longer will be part of the team. I have no interest in letting Mitch drag out his decision only to have us sit on our hands as other UFA's find new homes. Only for him to inevitably walk.

When Brad talks about a DNA change, I can only imagine not putting up with this type of bullshit is part of it. If you're all about the team Mitch, prove it. If not, best of luck to ya ✌️

my guess is Colorado, Dallas or LV.

Colorado just under 8 million in cap space with 4 spots to fill on roster
LV just over 10.5 million in cap space with 6 spots to fill on roster
DAL just over 13 million in cap space with 8 spots to fill on roster

Sign and trades can definitely happen with these teams to fit Marner in.
Colorado, Dallas, and Vegas aren't going to be resetting their cap structure to bring in a playoff fraud.

Colorado traded away a better player because they didn't want the cap hit. Dallas just acquired said better player and paid him probably less than what Marner will get. And Marner does not seem like a Vegas type of add at all.

Marner can yearn for those teams (and Florida/TB) all he wants. But reality is, the only southern teams that'll be dumb enough to want him at his price are probably Carolina and Nashville. Maybe a California team

The latest rumour on Knies is he wants 7M for 3-5 years. Might want to wait on the team friendly talk there. Sounds like he's going down the same path as all of the other big names that want max dollars on minimum term.

I think it's pretty obvious that Marner is done with this city. There's no game being played here, I think behind closed doors he has told management that he wants out.

The thing is, Knies at $7m short term is best case for him fair value and worst case an underpayment. A bridge deal is supposed to be a positive value in terms of cap hit for the team. Which Knies at $7m would be.

Matthews and Marner however, were never worth the 8 figure cap hits they received on their 2nd contracts

If thats the case, Brad owes Mitch absolutely nothing in holding this information private. Mitch used his right to block a trade at the deadline that would have prevented this circus from ever being a thing. Allegedly because "he wanted to stay". Yes, of course this is Mitch's right to do so, and I completely understand why he would make that decision when he and his wife were expecting a child.

But as far as I am concerned, Mitch's victim mentality is exactly what this team needs to rid themselves of. He is a fantastic player, and I am sure he's a good dude in the room. But at the end of the day, enough with the bullshit. You wear a letter, show some f***ing accountability and enough f***ing around with this constant "I need to sit down with my family", "i haven't given it any thought" nonsense.

Do you want to be a Leaf or not. Simple question. Has nothing to do with your wife, dad, dog or son. If the answer is no, I genuinely don't care, he has earned the right to walk. But if the answer is yes, enough with this garbage. Sign the f***ing deal

Yep...team has a DNA problem and culture problem and rhe amswer is to brinf back the most spoiled apple, who constantly lashes out to the media about mean treatment and let the consumate professional walk, who never has complained about media treatment? Keep the greedy, entitled local boy who continually wants to be overpaid and is a distraction and let the generous local boy go, who took a pay cut at 27 and is willing to take another pay cut to stay?

Yep... good way to improve the DNA.
How gives a shit as long as mumbles is gone.

Needed to sign him before his breakout. 7millionx5 sounds pretty reasonable for what he brings and how important he was to the team.

7 million is about 7.33% of the cap.

Would be nice to get 8 years though, but hes betting on himself. Just do noy give him a nmc in his 5th year!

I’m loving Frank Seravalli stepping up on the Fan Morning Show and saying guys around the league say Marner and Matthews don’t work nearly as hard as McDavid and Mackinnon and pushed back on the pressure in the market idea. Thank you for putting the spot light back on those players for their own issues and not spreading the blame like it’s a Toronto or market problem. Our market and fanbase doesn’t need to feel any shame or responsibility for on ice failures when everything is given to these players to succeed.

The player who would have played with McDavid, Mackinnon, Matthews and Marner would likely have been Tyson Barrie.

I still recall "Will before Skill" comment I forget whteher it was babock or Lou who said it.... and when we repeated teh same sentiments were were disciplined for calling out dubas

imagine that...

if we pay tavares a dollar over 4M on any term we are f***ed

He's a 3C come playoffs playing with Nylander who is nearly a ppg since hes been here.

I don't know if he and Jordan Staal are that much different come playoffs, JT just gets PP1 + Nylander.

Personally don't want tavares back in any capacity. He is the worst of the core 4, and was the worst over the past 7 years whilst making the 2nd most throughout most of the time here. His best season is Matthews and Marner's worst during that time and an average Nylander season.

call me superstitious but I really do believe that Tavares screwing the Isles had some bad juju that has plagued us for 7 years. I recall saying i don't want tavares focus on defense and i was told... you always throw money at the UFA like tavares and I was like FRACK NO but of course.....

You aren't worried about him being a "playoff fraud"?

Seems like he is worth far less, maybe in the $4 million range?

Might want to look into his numbers and how well he produces.

Or are you one of the people that only care about style of play and not winning?

I'd think that choosing a city to live in for the foreseeable future has a lot to do with his wife, dad, and son. You talk like someone who has never had to make a decision that impacts your entire family.

When you are making 3-14m you do whatever it takes. I swear people see the decision making process like some run of the mill 120k job.

They are making millions. They do what they need to do.

Mitch's final decision of course needs to take all things into consideration. His family and his own well being are of course the top priority. As a man with a young family I can completely get that.

But if someone asked me "Hey, would you you like to go on a 15 day golf trip?"

My answer wouldn't be "Well I love golf, and I've absolutely loved every time you and I have golfed in the past. But this is something I am going to need some time to think about, and talk to my family."

It would be more along the lines of "Yes, I would love to go on this 15 day golf trip, But that said, I have more responsibilities now as a young father. I can't just pack up and leave for 15 days to play golf like I used to. I don't know if that is something I can do at this time. I have to talk to my wife and family and see if that can work for us...etc"

The difference may sound subtle, even negligible, but one response beats around the bush, and the other clearly states a desire all while outlining the hurdles that might prevent that from being a reality.

I am really not asking Mitch to be anything more than authentic and truthful. I genuinely can respect whatever decision he makes for himself and his family. I have a young family myself, so ultimately I understand nothing else really matters for him. Nor should it.

But he's not doing himself any favors by p***yfooting around a decision IMO. Be a man, tell us what's on your mind. Save the bullshit about how you've loved your time as a Leaf. No one cares.

cool story , problem is Tavares doesn't give a f*** about anything but himself , never has and i doubt he ever will

-jerked his old team/fans around then walked on them to sign the highest cap hit in the league
-never holds himself accountable and just mumbles about learning lessons or some other crap after every failure
-puts padding his stats above becoming a better all around player

and why would he ever complain about the media since they've done nothing but fluff him and chuck his teammates under the bus his entire career to deflect away from his sub par playoff performances as well as one of the them speculating that they believe SJ offered a ridiculous number which the others picked ran with so his gross overpayment could be spun as a discount

Translation "I want to see if someone will overpay me... if the offers are low, I will come running back"

- Isnt the media and fans too harsh for him? Why is he still keeping the door open if this is the real reason? Naa....its always been about saueezing every penny.

Take a hike Mitch...

I hope the offers ares shockingly lower than expected and only on teams without an elite star to carry him.

I would run him down in the media for all the bad faith negotiation and drama before saying we have zero intent on keeping Mitch here.

Mitch may have a preferred destination, maybe that team doesn’t have the space to fit him in unless they trade a player back.
you're right he may have a preferred destination with a team that needs to clear cap but as i said that team wouldn't trade us a player with value just for Marner's rights when they could just wait until MM's a ufa and then move a player for assets

and if Mitch wants the 8th year then they'd just give us a mid rd pick in a sign and trade

He probably doesn't want the 8th. He will bet on himself and ask for x4 although if I were him I would be scared and take an x8 deal. His speed is dropping off fast.
