Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

I believ that you mean admit. I don't only admit it. Though as for asking why they would say the things they did is impossible. In fact, it would be more childish to attempt to do so than not. As for the pronouns I and we (all)... I never got that far in hockey, a couple of games in Jr B, but from the earliest involvement in hockey, the phrase the "we win and lose as a team" was instilled since day one.
Yes I meant admit, was a typo.

I will disagree then, if you can't question either the way a leader on the team says certain things or certain puzzling quotes such as this one, then there is no point in MY OPINION of talking on these boards.

I see Chris Tanev approach to the loss as ownership and accountability. It was a horrible game, the team played bad, but as a leader do you take ownership and want to work to fix that.

Different interpretations of the quote

I think this is going to be a game of brinksmanship and reworking the relationship to suit Marner.

Draft is going to roll by, the free agent options will look paltry and after the dust has settled on the season, maybe the Panthers run roughshod on the playoffs, suddenly the Leafs finish doesn’t look so bad.

Marner swings around, says he’s willing to listen and MLSE opens up the vaults on an overpay. You bet on talent and everything staying exactly the same. All of a sudden it looks like Marner is choosing Toronto. Thanks Darren Ferris.
I could see it, Tavares could draw the short straw on being "the big change" for the second consecutive year.

Tavares alone leaving isn't a big change in the slightest and I think everyone here knows that.

Of course, Leafs ownership is allergic to messing with their precious jersey sales, so who knows.

I can't see that this time. 2 goals in 13 games and doing it in a series where the club was so desperate for offense was horrible timing. This was his chance to show that he was a driver for the club and worthy of a big deal but he had another unremarkable post season. Matthews was hurt and Tavares might have been but Mitch was just meh. He will join Shanahan on the bread line.

That's not the context that's you pulling meaning out your ass, something you point others out for lol

Matthews and Marner blamed others. Tanev didnt and kept it to himself
When he knew it wasn’t him but that’s what veteran leaders do the guys driving the bus blamed the team for having too many passengers as if their playoff performance wasn’t underwhelming if they pulled their weight as the leaders we’re still playing

JT & Rielly out would be my preference. Our D has come a long way this year and Rielly is now the weakest defensively and doesn't fit the Treliving mold.

Retain Knies, Marner, Lorentz and sign Bennett to replace JT and replace Rielly in UFA with Rielly's capspace. Could still have enough cap for other upgrades as well.

Yea I would re-sign marner and then trade him first chance I can get

What is the fascination of resigning Marner?

Like honestly, had he shown anything in this past playoffs that he can win?

I agree that Reilly should be gone and JT is debatable depending on caphit and him agreeing to his new role.

I don't see him as the issue, I see him as the scapegoat.

Look around the league at the playoff scoring this year, there's like 10 players that are PPG, not only that but he's also in 7th in overall playoff scoring. Always playing against the best players and with a centre thay couldn't shoot and hasn't been right in two consecutive playoff series now.

This whole time we needed the cap to rise for our top heavy contracts to make sense and it's just about to, it will finally balance next year with a major increase and JT's 11M off the books.

No hes not. Here is Marner compared to the rest of playoff players. The closer to the center is bottom 50 percentile. It really is no wonder Marnsr struggles mightoly in playoff hockey. He doesnt have the skills to succeed.

Distance?

How does he have that going between the blue lines? Oh that's right it's from all the bad passes and having to rush back and TOI.

He just wasn't ever a 11m playoff player. He will never be a 13.5m player and most certainly never be a 15.5m player.

He was extremely greedy and got burned.

JT at 7 million is good that’s a 4 million dollar gain right there. Marner is not worth 4 million more per year than JT, let alone he wants a raise.

Luckily he doesn’t think he is Drai or else he would ask for 14.5mil
If he were Drai he'd actually be worth 14.5 mil.

I still think 7 mil is an overpayment for JT.

Regarding Marner, in the end I don't think it's going to matter, I don't think he wants to be here anymore regardless. If the Leafs don't like it then maybe they should have been proactive with his contract. They took a chance keeping him and it failed, which is only partly his fault.

JT 6m x3 fits.

Marner booed out of the arena for not raising his game in another playoff series. The salt in the wound is the offer refusal and the rub is Rantanen trade refusal. He likely won't even feel comfortable living in this city going forward.

It's always going to be immensely awkward and he is bound to get chirped about the ridiculous asks etc. he is best to go slink off into a low tax market and make his 10-11m because he isn't a playoff competitor and is slowing down. He won't be a winner unless he is added to a core that already has it, like Kadri or Kessel

Well he turned down 13.5 x 8.

So turning down 13.5, I would assume his ask is 14.

So yes, he does in fact believe he is fully comparable to Draisaitl.
Rumour was he asked for $15+m but that might be because he had no intention of negotiating or staying. He needs to be shown the door. I am also at the point that I would shop both 34 and 88 for huge hauls and buy out Rielly. These guys have been coddled and there needs to be a culture change.

You gotta understand that these same Marner fanboys were taunting the "haters" for years saying Marner's gonna re-sign for huge money in Toronto, Leaf for life, first ballot HoF'er, his name / number in the rafters etc and the haters will just "froth" the entire time.

Seeing how it's gonna end with Mitch embarrassing himself right out the door I'm gonna expect the coping is going to look quite pathetic. This was a terrible player to invest your faith in.
