If Mikko Rantanen had not re-signed after his trade to Dallas, then I bet BT would have pursued him as a UFA strongly considering he tried to trade from him.

Treliving is a smart guy because that is what I posted he should do with the Marner Cap space and money instead months ago before any potential trade even existed.

Now re-signing Marner might come down to a game of chicken with Marner testing free agency and if Leafs can't find an alternate replacement(s) for the re-captured space may in fact circle around and back putting a Leafs offer back on the table. I can see Marner camp offering Leafs an opportunity to match his best UFA offer.
