It's very possible this team will be better even though they may get less talented.

There is a malaise on this team where they are completely unable to rise to any challenge or adversity and they would be better off with some grinders who step up their game than the current group that just wilts every time.

It’s very possible, I just hope they pick the right guys. It’s pretty clear it’s time to move on from the core. 9 years of not getting it done, no matter how much you like a player, you kind of just have to accept the proof is in the pudding.

I’m just looking at the UFA pool and I’m not seeing a ton of good value. I feel like the leafs need to save their cash, sell off pieces for draft picks, reacquire a 2026 first rounder and look to 2026 UFA which is a better class and build from there.

Possibly, it’s hard to know for sure. Especially with Matthews being injured. How effective would Rantanen be beside him? There too many variables to know for certain.

I just think there’s too much wrong with this team and one player may not have been the fix.

He and the Leafs need to part ways because its obvious at this point the culture of this team is broken beyond repair so all they can do is tear it down to the studs and start over. But I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him be successful elsewhere ala the 4 Nations.

Marner will be fine if he leaves. Many of the options have good young players or there’s the option to play with Sid, if he doesn’t end up in Colorado.

If he leaves, good riddance anyways. The leafs need to figure out if this is the new Matthews or not. Cause if this is his new baseline we are f***ed

As a person and hometown guy I would like him back, but as a player after all these disappointing playoff performances, its hard but I would rather let him go even though it would suck to lose him for nothing. You can't even point to tonight's game and say they lost such a close game that it wouldn't be totally stupid to re-sign him and run it back.

They got blown the hell up YET AGAIN and Marner didn't contribute anything in yet another pivotal game. I just don't know how you can throw a big contract at him and bring him back long term and keep running it back with this same core group that has shown you time and again that they just don't have it. It would be INSANE to do so.
 
Hated Babock. Complete asshole. But he smelled the Marner bullshit from a mile away, while the rest of us were in love with this turd.

Bye bye 16. You dug your own grave. You will be amazing on another team where you're not the go to guy

Well, one of he or Matthews have to go. They cannot coexist. Matthews has a NMC... Marner has no contract.

I'd actually prefer Marner to stay over Matthews too. Marner is more durable and can play in more situations (just not in the playoffs, but neither can Matthews so whats the diff).

The whole contract situation here is f***ed up and it is going to cost the Leafs majorly.

Marner is gone, he had a chance to redeem himself. I thought the Four Nations might be a turning point, I was wrong. He simply can't do it here, probably anywhere. Move on, and not just him imo.

His legacy is deserved, these guys have had a million occasions to rewrite the script. It's over now.
