Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Oh if they don’t come back to Toronto it’s done, for sure.

What amounts to an 8-1 thrashing over two games is unacceptable.

I think realistically Marner walks and Matthews asks for a trade.

Even they must realize that to stay is to invite appropriate ridicule.

I can see Tavares remaining.

The robot can leave too as far as I am concerned. I just know that they'll sign him to too much while he's only going to decline. And he's been a no-show almost all the time in the playoffs too.

He built one the softest Leaf team ever if not the softest ever...after Dubas became GM, there was a period of about 3 years when the Leafs were physically intimidated game in and game out with no pushback...in a way, Dubas has some responsibility for the development of the young core at the time...he didn't protect them on the ice and allowed them to be bullied by other teams...Dubas was the worst thing to have happened for this team...Shanahan is also a big problem.

It's a good thing Dubas is gone, but he gave this team some good pieces without a single top pick.

Knies, Robertson, McMann, Minten, Cowan, Grebyonkin, are all Dubas 'prospects'

Brought in McCabe on that sweetheart contract.

The Knies hit alone is incredible.

Actually it was da other way around Ferris came in, i hear around 15.5M for 8 years, and Tre just LOLed him .. it was Shanny that iced Mitch and told him i think you need to check out FA .. this is exactly what should have occurred with Dumb*ass too .. let them bring on their offer .. then Ferris would have been shown to be da BS artist he is
Has it ever happened before for a player of marners ‘caliber’ to get less on his 28 y/o ufa deal than a ~22y/o era deal?
Surely it’s happened before but to a 100+ point getter in his contract year?
God help the team that does it, and if it’s the Leafs, God help us all

Not an 11 mil winger then, and isn’t now.

I think the only teams that will want Marner are late stage rebuilders, bubble playoff teams and wild card teams. So probably your 15th-25th place teams.

If I had to rank I’d say;

1. Utah
2. Boston (would be sickening)
3. New York Islanders
4. Detroit Red Wings
5. St. Louis Blues

Dark horse New York Rangers

It was a 4 game gimmick series where Marner found himself as the least played forward by game 3.

If Cooper was so impressed with Marner in game 1,2... he wouldnt have made him the forward with the least mins in game 3. Im fact the coaches admitted the changes in game 3 to the lineup were because they thought the team was too perimeter. So.... yea a major change was to drop Marner to the least played forward. By next year, some of the Canada forwards who played more than him in game 3 will be paid 1/2 what Marner wants! So it would seem Cooper seen exactly ehat we have seen over the past 9 years.

Sure Marner made a play 3v3 in OT in game 1, and couple plays in game 4... but him riding the pine by game 3 is more telling than his couple points in game 4. Also.. that lineup was the leagues best players... he doesnt have Mcdavid, Crosby, Mackinnon, Stone, Point, Marchand, to hide in the shadow of, or carry the play, or carry the leadership load.... anywhere he goes, for the money he wants, he is supposed to be THE GUY for all the above.
Nah, that fact he worked his way back from low minutes in game 3 to one of the top minutes and set up the gold medal. Game 3 does not a tournament make. Brad Marchand , known leaf killer, got the least amount of ice in the gold medal final.

Knies and hopefully Cowan.

Dubas + Crosby = Pittsburgh.

And he’ll use the exact same script with respect to the cap and his bid for Marner as he did here to assuage fears.

Possibly, but I think Marner really wants a quiet market. Or a Market that’s not going to make everything a big deal. Utah seems like the perfect fit. A new exciting fanbase, he can help put them over the edge.

I would laugh my ass off if he signed in Boston though. They might make that splash

Lol... the Leafs are not team Canada. No NHL team is built like team Canada. Also, its a gimmic series.

His series was up and down...put up a few points but also was bad enough in games 1-2, that he was droppes to 4th line duties in game 3.

It is not impressive that in the final game he was moved up in the middle of the game.

The fact, that in a 4 game series ...he was dropped to 4th line from the 1st line tells you that his coach was not inpressed with games 1-2 and obviously not in game 3 either since he wasnt moved up in that game either. So... 3 out of 4 games his coach wasnt impressed.

Leafs would probably be better off if he was benched, but when he dump 11 million into 4 players, your next options are 4th liners.

Its great seeing all these playoff goals with 3 forwards banging away at the puck in the crease/slot. Anytime the Matthews line is out... I see Matthews and Knies around the net and im like where the f*&^ is Marner? And like clockwork, right when its too late and the opposition wins the puck battle, Marner slowly enters in the frame from the blueline lol.

When Marner made the spin-er-oony superplay, Boqvist was behind him.

Boqvist had to pass him to get back onside, and then passed him again to score.

Ugh. That play is going to haunt me

Boston has an organizational culture and policy to kick out any players that don't fit their mold, no matter how good or valuable they are.

Marner doesn't strike me as a Boston type.

Did you think they were? Poor attempt at obfuscation.

Thankfully! His greatest contribution to the franchise is that he didn’t accept an extension and wouldn’t negotiate throughout the year. Can you imagine if he had an 8 yr extension after playing like he has this playoff.
That would be the legacy of MM esp if Rantanen win the Cup and the Conn Symthe.
On the other hand, Stars fans will indeed think MM is a godsend, lol

It's like the fake fighting for the puck along the boards...take the long route and let the opposition get to the puck first, then pretend to engage so he doesn't get hit.

Boston also has a culture of turning guys you wouldn’t think that fit that mould into players who do. I could definitely see Marner being a guy they value. Skill is still skill at the end of the day.

And Boston would relish at the opportunity to grab a guy who would love nothing more than to stick it to the leafs if he were to leave. For that reason alone I could see Boston doing it, having Minten and Marner light us up for years to come LOL.
