Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Hard to blame Marner when he's glued to Matthews every series.

I think a lot of people have been breathing down Mitch's neck while ignoring the albatross around his neck in Matthews. Some of us are coming around, but I expect when Marner walks away this offseason, we'll come to understand just how much he was hindered by playing with Mr. Choker himself.

It was very clear after the Montreal series that he should have been traded. What kind of hockey player cries in the penalty box in a game 6? Even if you lose game 6, you give it your all in game 7 and turn the tide...but game 6 wasn't even over yet, and the game was still in the balance and undecided...but he thought crying was the solution.

its actually pretty easy to blame him since he has done f*** all all of this time

They are both chokers, but if you look at Marner's stat from game 5 to 7 of the playoffs over the past several seasons, Marner is the bigger choker...it's no coincidence he shoots 10 foot further away from the net on average in the playoffs...guy is literally afraid to go to the front of the net and be hit.

What does Mathews have to do with Marner literally turning into a 12 year old hockey player?

A backhand spinning pass out of your own endzone?

Everything in the postseason is blueline chucks or PP QB points. Both are problems. Marner is a certified playoff choker.

He doesn't even play good defence????

Is it true this little midget, who spends his off-seasons dancing around on social media like a f***ing dweeb instead of working on his many, many weaknesses year after year, has a pitiful 1 goal in 20 game 5-7 playoff games in his career?

Quick, give him a raise!
But he thinks he should be paid like Draisaitl though... :sarcasm:

The man couldn't lace Nylander's skates, let alone Leon's.
Some people literally have no shame, no self awareness and live in a bubble, or just doesn't give a crap except for the money...guy bent over the fool in Dubas last contract negotiations, now wants to bend over Tre...if you ignore the 2 GM's, he is literally bending over the Leafs and it's fans with how much money he wants while bringing nothing in the playoffs...a complete fraud.

I wouldn't argue Marner has been good or even okay. I am not stupid.

What I am saying is the fault doesn't lay entirely on his shoulders. He's the setup guy. Who is he going to setup? Matthews disappears every playoffs and the other two guys (Hyman, Knies) are crashing the net. The only option he has is to throw it at the net, he has no other good options that works for his skillset.

I am boldly arguing Matthews it the much bigger problem. I am not arguing Mitch isn't or hasn't been a problem. I personally dislike his attitude and personality a lot.

If he's just the set-up guy, he shouldn't be asking for Draisaitl money...the truth is, he thinks he's more but can't deliver when it matters.

I have no interest in a setup guy who can't score at all in the postseason. We can get that from Domi.

Domi is actually a better goal scorer than Marner in the postseason.

How the hell is that worth 11mil?

No shit Matthews played bad, but Marner lacks talent and skills to overcome Matthews playing badly.

Marner is a GIANT problem. It's not a much bigger problem issue. It's a primary issue alongside Matthews. He stacked points via blue line chucks and PP QB points. I saw it in the Tampa series, called it, out and he proceed to suck doo doo in the previous Panther series.

Both of em of fcked. Marner is walking 100%. Matthews might get traded.

So Matthews made him twirl and throw a 360 no look pass in the neutral zone? You find it hard to blame Marner for that play?

Oh look another playoff year, another year I post this in response to a Marner backbreaking turnover losing us the game.

He literally has a longer low light real than highlight real in the postseason.

That's literally the equivalence of throwing crap on the wall hoping it sticks...peewee level stuff in a pivotal game 5 tied series...it's essentially like throwing your arms in the air because you don't know what to do.

He's the setup guy. Who is he going to setup?

He’s paced for ~30 goals a year for the last four seasons. Acting like it’s ridiculous to expect him to score goals in the playoffs is really weird. Dude has 1 shot total in the last three games ffs

There’s a Matthews thread where people are rightfully killing him. This is the Marner thread and the excuses are lame.
