Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

Not a Dubas truther but I can't help think back to when Dubas was in his last days basically saying he was gonna trade Mitch in the off-season. Then he was gone and Tree was brought in and took a 'wait and see' approach.

Dubas may have wanted to trade Nylander. I think it would have been Marner but regardless Shanahan ranked him on that

Well in Trees defense...Shanahan fired Dubas, and immediately called the core 4 to tell them they arent going anywhere....long before he hired Tree.

No worries, we just have to wait 6 months or so, then the Marner threads will again be overrun with his fans telling us how super crazy elite he is, how he's Leafs all-time this and that, he'll be on legends row, he "looks different" this year and anyone who dares to bring up playoffs will of course be called a hater.
Movember time!

Tre didn't take a wait and see approach, Shanny outright told the players they weren't going anywhere.

Thanks for nothing Marner !!!

After a failed trade to Toronto, and since joining the Dallas Stars, Rantanen is enjoying hockey again.

That’s evidenced by Rantanen’s torrid start in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs. He’s the Conn Smythe Trophy favorite, scoring nine goals and 19 points in 11 games.

The Stars are happy to reap the rewards of Rantanen’s new spark, as he may become the first player to be acquired at the trade deadline to become the postseason’s MVP.

This guy's legacy will be the dump he took during the Montreal series and his refusal to remove his no-trade clause so we could trade his sorry ass for Rantanen. He's learned nothing at all from the past. That spinerama that led to a goal last night was the icing on the cake. I don't care if we win this series or not, we should not sign him under any circumstances, even for $10 M.

My dad cheers for the oilers now. He has basically been radicalised by current events into supporting the Canadian team with the most Canadians, or at least they were that last year
I hate the Oilers, but I love McDavid and I want him to win the Cup. He plays with the heart and desire we can only wish Matthews would. I'll never forget that disappointed look on his face when he came so close to being drafted by the Leafs. Fate truly dealt us a cruel hand.

10m with a limited clause would be ok. You could move that.

His effort last night was really disgusting. He refused to get engaged with anyone, standing around with no purpose. Only player worse last night was Matthews whose efforts this series are very damning. I don't buy the excuse that he's injured, if you can play, PLAY like you f***ing want it.

I used to love them in the Marchand/Cujo/Smytty days, loved Hemsky and Rollie the goalie too. And I know lots of great people from Edmonton and I want them to be happy. I love McDavid too. but I will not tolerate the guy who is responsible for me being a Leafs fan just up and leaving to cheer for the team with the best player in the world. so I half-heartedly cheer against them now.

The fact that would be a consideration stats wise is brutal.
Regular season, he's one of the greats. I've been saying for years that regular season Marner>>>playoff Marner, and regular season I take Marner over Nylander but playoffs, it's the other way around. This season hopefully pounded home this point for everyone but who knows, wouldn't surprise me if @diceman934 still thought Marner was worth every penny and more. @ACC1224 too, lord knows he's made hundreds of posts taking jabs at Nylander to prop up Marner who seems to be the love of his life.

Whaddya say @diceman934? Do you expect Marner to show up and have a great game tomorrow? Still think he's a "franchise player"?

I thought Marner would be back next season, just so much incentive for him to stay. But those last two games, just wow. Barring a miracle (Leafs winning the next 2 games) it's hard to see it happening now.

CJ flat out says there's 'zero reason' to believe he will sign an extension 'on or before July 1'.

There is zero reason for Toronto to look to that unless it's sign and trade.

TheWave senior: " He is a good player until the playoffs and you may as well bench him."

TWS: "When Stolarz was taken out, it was a psychological blow".
