I don't get it why did people think Mitch was a good translate in the postseason?
His East West style needs space that is short in the postseason. He's got no shot, he's slow, he's small, and he can't win puck battles at all.
A guy like Nylander isn't aggressive on the forecheck physically, but he's hard to win a puck battle against once he has the puck. Marner? Turnover turnover turnover.
Most of his points in the postseason have been generated from the blue line, random chucks or PP QB secondary assists. Many people pointed this out in the winning Tampa series, where he proceed to get his face pounded in by Florida. The same thing happened this year. He's got the worst most irrelevant highlight real yet. Like doing a crazy goal against Boston when the game is over and we're already dead.
Beyond that, he fails to play responsibly in the postseason. Nylander is sometimes a bad defender, but it's never like this. Marner's brain is good to turnoff like the power went off or something at least 1-2 in key playoff moments. Yet fans will lock onto Willy for that Mccabe 2-2, while Marner's mistakes are mostly washed away by his regular season Selke play.
Habs series, game 6 against Tampa, game 7 against Boston, Game 5 against Florida etc etc. It's a legit highlight real of Mitch's brain turning off.
He can't shoot, he's small, he's slow, he can't win puck battles. Why exactly are we surprised he isn't good in the postseason?
Because Matthews is hurt? I have no interest in a player that cannot carry the load alone. He's at a 15 goal pace in the postseason.
Surely everyone knows this is unacceptable, surely we should have known this after Habs series, surely we should have known this after the first Florida series, surely people would have learned after the worst series I've ever seen in Boston. The excuses are hilarious, he's hurt. Actually he was skating fine. The brain was the problem. Then to cap it all off. A good first 2 games against Florida. Then a nightmare.
That sums up his postseason career in Toronto.
I've said these points over and over again for the last 2 years. It rings just as true after Florida 2 years ago as it does today. Even if you disagree me, surely you see the logical reasoning.
edit: He's lucky Nylander and Pats hard carried game 6 against the Senators. He was uh not good again. in game 6 what a surprsie.
