Player Discussion Mitch Marner Part Infinity

I don't get it why did people think Mitch was a good translate in the postseason?

His East West style needs space that is short in the postseason. He's got no shot, he's slow, he's small, and he can't win puck battles at all.

A guy like Nylander isn't aggressive on the forecheck physically, but he's hard to win a puck battle against once he has the puck. Marner? Turnover turnover turnover.

Most of his points in the postseason have been generated from the blue line, random chucks or PP QB secondary assists. Many people pointed this out in the winning Tampa series, where he proceed to get his face pounded in by Florida. The same thing happened this year. He's got the worst most irrelevant highlight real yet. Like doing a crazy goal against Boston when the game is over and we're already dead.

Beyond that, he fails to play responsibly in the postseason. Nylander is sometimes a bad defender, but it's never like this. Marner's brain is good to turnoff like the power went off or something at least 1-2 in key playoff moments. Yet fans will lock onto Willy for that Mccabe 2-2, while Marner's mistakes are mostly washed away by his regular season Selke play.

Habs series, game 6 against Tampa, game 7 against Boston, Game 5 against Florida etc etc. It's a legit highlight real of Mitch's brain turning off.

He can't shoot, he's small, he's slow, he can't win puck battles. Why exactly are we surprised he isn't good in the postseason?

Because Matthews is hurt? I have no interest in a player that cannot carry the load alone. He's at a 15 goal pace in the postseason.

Surely everyone knows this is unacceptable, surely we should have known this after Habs series, surely we should have known this after the first Florida series, surely people would have learned after the worst series I've ever seen in Boston. The excuses are hilarious, he's hurt. Actually he was skating fine. The brain was the problem. Then to cap it all off. A good first 2 games against Florida. Then a nightmare.

That sums up his postseason career in Toronto.

I've said these points over and over again for the last 2 years. It rings just as true after Florida 2 years ago as it does today. Even if you disagree me, surely you see the logical reasoning.

edit: He's lucky Nylander and Pats hard carried game 6 against the Senators. He was uh not good again. in game 6 what a surprsie.

Marner's 82 game and 100+ point regular season helped secure 1st place and home ice advantage for the Leafs.
&
Marner's play and performance in game #5 yesterday washed it all away in a single game.

A good indication how much weight should be placed on regular season play, when numbers are all reset and the real season begins.

After the game, the comments coming from the players were all in unison as they were hoping to look past the loss and as Mitch Marner said "flush it down the toilet". Unfortunately it's not that easy in a city that demands a whole lot more than what they received last night. The lack of accountability was staggering and left fans irate.

Flushing it down the toilet will be easier said than done because now the Leafs have to take down the Panthers on Friday night in Florida to force a Game 7. Considering their lack of success in elimination games over the years, it's high-time they finally showed up for once -- especially if your name is Mitch Marner.

P.Kane is small but the difference between Kane and marner is even though Kane is an elite playmaker, he’s also a high volume shooter which marner isn’t. Marner wants to avoid hits and stay on the elremiter to dish it to someone.

Yes, Kane also is very hard to get the puck off because of his insane hands and dangles.

Marner does not have that at all. Nor does he shoot as you point out.

Literally the 2nd highlight. Drives to the net and shoots.

If you notice most cup champions best winger is a high volume shooter, Ovie, Kane, Kessel,Tarasenko, Kucherov. And when you don’t have a high volume shooter like a Tkachuk, Stone or Rantanen, those 3 players bring physicality which marner has zilch of. In conclusion, if you want to win a cup with your high caphit winger, either he be a high volume shooter or bring a physical element. Marner is neither.

There is many differences between the two.

The comparison was dumb to begin with.

Do you want Mitch back if we lose the series?

I do, but only if we have a single and trade option available.
Nah f*** that. The only, and I mean the only solace we was fans will have is this dumbass getting 7 years and not an 8 year contract. We could have had rantanen but nope.

I'm good with some team having to pay his dumbass two million more per year because it's over 7 years. Ain't doing any team or Mitch the bitch any favors unless we absolutely put our nuts in there face and fleece them for a first and change which isn't happening

Marner is the least courageous player in the league. Whatever his play style is, wherever he’s trying to go, whatever he’s trying to do is undermined by the fear of being made uncomfortable.

This. The only way he'll be back is if he signs way below what he'd get on the open market, and we know that's not happening.

Tre literally tried to trade him at the deadline. He's gone.

He can’t come back under any dollar amount. Steve Dangle actually had it right when he said he wouldn’t be welcome back with a negative cap hit.

It’s exaggeration to a point. He does get you into the playoffs quite easily. But why do you need to make the playoffs when this is always the dead end?

This Marner supporter doesn't care anymore if he leaves the leafs. He better not win the cup with his new team.... I also won't be obsessing over him when and if he leaves like a certain poster prob will still do lol

If he stays a leafs, then I duno lol leafs are my team so go leafs go, but shit man.

Don't worry. We're 1000 times more likely to see a Jonathan Huberdeau type fall off than Marner winning a cup.

This isn't because of psychological issues, it's because Mitch is an incredibly flawed player. Can't shoot or be physical. What use is that?

It’s just time. He opens up so much space to bring on UFAs and Toronto always gets a shot at the best options.

I love Marner but feel like moving him will elevate the team to a new level, with more balance and not so much money spent on wingers.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I've read "you can't let talent like that walk". I can't help but wonder what all those people are thinking today?

It might be addition by subtraction, at least in getting Matthews head out of his ass. I maintain Domi, Bertuzzi and Matthews was the one time I saw him actually be a top 3 player.

Next years first line.

Knies Matthews Domi. Fck it 3 lefties.
