Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Part 3758391849

It's pretty simple.

He MAY pass the puck to someone who will score a goal in a big game. He simply does not have the physical attributes to play with these heavier teams and Matthews will take the blame being called a trash C while covering up for all the areas of Marners game he is cheating on.

The Marner for Rantanen trade that should have happened but didn't because he refused would have been a game changer for us.

Rantanen just pulled off a hockey version of Kawhi Leonard for Dallas. Their whole front office is wearing shit eating grins.
Go jets

While I mostly agree, I do think that some of this is on Marner - if he really wanted to stay as a Leaf, he could’ve signed this season, but it’s all about money with him it seems. And yeah, it’s up to the players how they want to live their lives and it’s up to management to construct the team, but as a “I love it here, Im treated like a God, my hometown”-kinda guy, Marner couldve handled this much, much better.

If the Leafs and Marner do their usual thing this upcoming series, and he leaves for nothing, when the Leafs could’ve gotten some return, then yeah, I can understand why some fans would have some issues with it. Hell, same fans gave Sundin shit for wanting to STAY a Leaf, while instead he was run out of town.

But, I actually think that the Leafs are better off without him in the coming years. Their track record with him is enough for me to believe so at least
No indication it's anything to do with money . I feel more he'll go somewhere else , for less , and be more happy with life .

He thinks he’s treated as a god here. How can he be happier than that? He can make the fans happy, win a Cup or extend at no raise

I would prefer that he dial it up a few notches like he did during the 4 Nations tourney, close readings of teammate and coach comments, frame by frame breakdowns of goal involvement, it worked great in that instance
Can’t change the lines now so Marner has to work with what he has to earn an extension. He’s looking for $12-14 million AAV and not on a PTO looking for a contract.

It's not just the fans or the money ect i think it's the media myself . These guys get 20 mikes stuck in their face at practice ffs . The negativity i would think would get to most people . The Toronto market isn't for everyone .

I think it’s 100% about the money. He probably wants to stay Toronto, but knows that he can always go elsewhere and earn a great living.
There’s a great opportunity for him beginning Tomorrow. After game 1 I don’t expect that his line will face the Barkov line which should really help

He would never have made the gods comment, if he felt unhappy. Toronto isn’t for everybody we need guys that are “shine the light on me” types

What’s negative about a mic in your face?

I think Maurice will recognize Matthews is out to lunch and will play Barkov against Tavares. Not only negate them but also create more scoring opportunities. As the series goes, I expect Marner and Matthews to get a high dose of Marchand, which is better than facing Bennett.

It's hard to imagine the guy leaving town after he just had a kid. I assume his wife's family lives here?

Marchand is on their 3rd line. I'd go Barkov vs Matthews and Bennett vs Tavares. Not sure if we see as much production from Tavares this round 5 on 5.

The only surprise is that you can be so wrong so regularly, apparently without realizing it. I provided some facts and several posters ignored them and focused on a perceived insult that didn't exist. I didn't blame anyone, just pointed out facts.
The irony of that first sentence coming from you... You posted a heavily skewed representation of Marner and Nylander producing the same number of points against a goalie. In the process, you posted false information, and insulted everybody who doesn't agree with your distorted perception. I called you out on the false information. Others called you out on the insults. You tried playing the victim, and blamed everybody but yourself for the consequences of your actions. Now you're lashing out at people.

Nobody is ignoring your "facts". People are ignoring you, because you do stuff like this. I imagine most people are enjoying the series win and both Marner and Nylander playing well, instead of trying to pit them against each other.

Rantanen really put a clinic on the other night.
Yeah he had a great game. Was lots of fun to watch. Made up for his weak start to the series.

Colorado is probably really regretting losing their star winger. I wonder what we could learn from that.

Amadio completely shutdown Matthews so I think Florida may try to take advantage of his injuries. They may try to aggravate them even more and then let alone and focus on others.

Agreed, I think it has little do with money. It’s about what it’s always been about, he wants to be respected like Matthews. You have a guy whose ego is broken, that’s it. Marner has his faults in the situation because of how the last negotiations went, but like you I think he’s going to take 12/12.5 and sign in a more comfortable situation, probably Pittsburgh or San Jose. I believe he wore 87 as a little kid based on those videos where his dad was screaming at him lol.

I don’t think it matters what happens here, that’s just the sense i get. If im him I don’t really understand the incentive to stay tbh, besides the fact that it’s my hometown. He can make a ton of money anywhere, wont be the scape goat somewhere new and gets a chance to be the man somewhere else, fresh start and more peaceful situation.

Never underestimate the power of the wife and her family. I'd say he has a lot of non-hockey related incentives to stay here.

I have to give you credit for one thing - your posts are frequently hysterically funny. The only question I have is: is it intentional or are you really that oblivious?

Thanks for a good morning laugh.

Why are we assuming that his wife wants to stay? What if she’s saying let’s get out of here? If these things were true Marner would have signed on the dotted line ages ago. If his wife was seriously applying pressure to stay I think a deal would have been done by now.

I think everyone assumes they are 100% down to stay, both could be ready for a change come July 1st. The longer this goes, the more open to change he probably is IMO. But I don’t know for sure, I could be way off base.

Yup Grandma Bonnie Marner can offer discount babysitting services to look after her new grandson, if Marner re-signs with the Leafs.

Mitch can then offset his asking price to the Leafs [ Asking AAV - Family babysitting discount] = Lower AAV to Leafs.

Now if Mitch can get his Dad Grandpa Paul Marner involved in child raising cost saving measure like Jumper Jersey purchases etc.

These can all drive down Marner's next contract costs to the Leafs. :sarcasm::sarcasm::sarcasm:

Wtf, Hilarious. I'm so confused.

“Star winger”… I’d say that it’s unfair to compare Marner, or anyone on the Leafs, to Rantanen. He’s a gamer come playoff time, showing it year after year.
