A star who is also 6'4, who has 39 goals and 118 points in 88 postseason games.

Marner is 511 and has 13 goals, 58 point in 63 postseason games.

Are you not seeing a big difference here?

Florida, traded soft pass first star season performer forward Huberdeau and how did that turn out?
Rantanen is a big dude...skates well and strong on his skates, and has a lethal shot...guy literally willed the goal with his shot to put Dallas on the board last night, and took charge to score the tying goal, though it was lucky to have gone off a skate, but you gotta be good to be lucky...at the handshake line, he was a good 2 inches taller than MacKinnon and towered over Makar...too bad Tre couldn't get him...him on the wing with Matthews would be something else against the Panthers.

You can't teach 6'4" and 215 lbs or how to be clutch and not fear the moment.

Apparently, after Marner rejected the trade, the Leafs threw Minten, Cowen and picks at Carolina but they preferred the Dallas package. Though I'm unsure how Leaf would've fit him under the cap?

Yeah, that would have been tough to fit him in unless someone goes on LTIR, lol

His cap hit was minimal after the trade to the Canes and somebody retaining half. Canes wanted a roster player and Leafs probably not willing to include Knies. So Canes settled with Stankoven who has been pretty good for the Canes.

For those fans that want Mitch to stay in Toronto the birth of his first child could not have come at a better time

The families of both parents want to be around the baby and involved. It would be very difficult for a new mom to have to pack up everything in a few months and be away from her family. And also if she doesn’t move and Mitch does as a new dad you don’t want to be away from your baby

Timing is really in favour of him staying
Doesnt Laughton have a 4 or 5 month old? He was shipped here at the trade deadline. When you’re a professional athlete doesn’t matter where family is plenty of players over the years have been traded days after having a kid.

Plenty of room on that Dallas bandwagon for you guys and ain't no one here going to miss you.
lol, sounds like sour grapes. I’m not a Dallas fan by any means but I can admit it’s just a great story. Their GDT is funny as hell as well. Save time start on page 11. See how their fans react from admitting defeat to WTF happened holy shit. lol!

If Marner had a limited NTC than our GM Treliving would have Mikko Rantanen in the Leafs line-up right now.
Moot point as there was no way he would have accepted two steps down from a NMC to a modified NTC, and even if he did Carolina could have been on his list of banned teams.
Now if he walks away at end of season Leaf Nation getting NO RETURN on investment is what is going to follow Marner the rest of his career should he depart that will bring on the wrath.
No return on investment would be a problem for Leafs management if he leaves, not for him.
In that case, I'm not buying any more because it seems to not work past game 86.
I thought it worked well in game 88 this year. The whole core showed up for a change.

Marner just needs to find a way to better put the puck into the back of the net in the playoffs. He only has SEVEN goals in his last 43 playoff games and TWELVE goals in 63.

That is horrific.

It is fun watching your team play games in the playoffs I think
... so watching the team play in playoff means we can't continue discussion about Marner?

Please explain.

Marner fans every year say hes the leafs best player and OMG MVP of Leafs and others who are critical of him say... let's wait till playoffs.

Now playoffs are here and Marner fans only want to shut down Marner talk?

Almost as crazy as Marner fans starting an appreciation thread and thinking and wanting no criticism about Marner in it.

I mean, we got through to the next round and Marner played great all series. I'm pretty happy. You guys sound like you like what's going on in Dallas better, have at it, they'll be happy to have you and we'll be happy to be rid of you.
Yeah definitely sour grapes. Rantanen did something that’s never been done in history hockey fans enjoy it. Even some Avs fans paid tribute.

Agreed this really is being discussed in the wrong thread. His historical performance should be in the Around the League thread.

How can you possibly be so completely wrong? It's like you didn't even read any of the thred.
Oh I wasn't wrong. You were. And for once, you admitted it, and it was such progress that I didn't even bother pointing out how much you slanted your representation of the Marner/Nylander stats towards flattering Nylander. Who cares, right? We won the series and both players played well.

But I move on and less than 12 hours later, you're quoting my post for the second time to blame everybody but yourself for people not being super interested in discussing the facts you had messed up, right after you insulted them. Gee I wonder why. And now you're going after me. What a surprise.

I don’t believe they ‘found’ him, they were approached

They were still prepared to pull the trigger on the trade. So found/approached is besides the point.

I wouldn’t consider it the same as JT. Not even close. Marner didn’t lead the fans on and say he has no interest in leaving. All he said was he’s focused on this season. JT literally told the fans he’s not going anywhere. Also JT’s relationship was the islanders fans was not as volatile as Marner’s with the leafs.

Leafs fans perplex me, you have half the fanbase that want him gone or think he’s overrated and then you’re wondering why he’s not negotiating? Players aren’t stupid, they hear the noise, they have family members who read stuff, they have phones, they also read stuff, they are still human at the end of the day. Forget about everything else and think about it from a human level perspective. Seeing all the shit on socials, are you going to be quick to negotiate to stay here? Absolutely not. Whether we like it or not, it’s his contractual right to take up to June 30th to negotiate. I’m not sure why anyone would seriously consider returning to a place where you’re not necessarily wanted.

Right or wrong, what Brad did at the deadline with Carolina probably added to the feelings of not being wanted. Prior to that happening I feel like there was maybe a small chance Marner engages in contract conversation, can’t see it happening after that until after playoffs now.

In the player's own words, unprompted, he described playing on Toronto as being treated like a 'God', I think we can hold off a bit on the poor Marner stuff

And expecting a team to walk on eggshells around a player who is themselves using strongarm tactics (refusing to negotiate) seems a bit silly.
