I don't dissagree but it's people lashing out that he didn't waive , at that instant . This is on the Leafs i think more than Marner . They could of asked him for a list a long time before that . Feels like Marner's been clear since day 1 , he's going to free agency in not so many words . Leafs read it wrong and thought he'd negotiate only with them .
It doesn't feel like that to me.

This 100%. Had they and the Avs were on his list, they could have traded him to the Avs for Rantanen. Then again, if Avs were not paying Rantanen more than $11.75m, they were probably not interested in paying Mitch that much. Either way, they could have traded him and not risk losing him for nothing.

I just hope they do not let Ferris bend them over again.

No question a Clueless Dubas and him getting played to hand out full no movement contracts on what 2nd bridge RFA contracts, should be what many Leaf fans should blame rather than Marner himself. IMO

If Marner had a limited NTC than our GM Treliving would have Mikko Rantanen in the Leafs line-up right now.

Current Leafs management was prepared and willing to move on from Mitch. However by invoking his NMC even though he was unwanted by Toronto, it was his right..

Now if he walks away at end of season Leaf Nation getting NO RETURN on investment is what is going to follow Marner the rest of his career should he depart that will bring on the wrath.

This can still have a happy ending if the Leafs do go on to win the Stanley Cup this year, then re-signed or departing the Marner saga will have a different impact on him and Leafs Nation. This is the outcome I'm hoping for. :5:

If marner walks and we get no return the only person I’ll be pissed off at is Shanahan. He had the opportunity to in 2023 and spent two months in a pissing contest with Dubas rather than focus on improving the team. He then didn’t allow Tre to trade him once Tre was hired. I’m not finna cheer for Marner once he leaves but the no return is squarely on the leafs. It’s the President and GM’s job to construct the roster, it’s not Marner’s job to ensure the leafs get a return for him.

Yay for the baby and Mom and Mitch too I guess. Momma is probably hoping he gets the looks from her side of the family.

Get on the plane tomorrow or whatever and give us a solid start to the series Mitchy boy daddy!

It looks like you may have been right, although backwards. Some posters have focused on the perceived insult in an attempt to "deflect and distract" from the actual facts provided (apart from the error you pointed out).
I haven't seen any of that, but that's quite an attempt to blame others for the consequences of your own actions.

We’re at home to start the series lol

Why do you continually want Marner to be someone who he is not? Nylander, Matthews, JT are not known as physical players, yet you give them a pass. Dude you've been beating this nonsensical drum for what a year and have yet to make a congruent point. At a certain point dont you just have to admit you don't have a point and move on?
Did I highlight the hit at the 9 min mark? No that was a Marner only fans.

I don't care about credited hits, they aren't even accurately tracked. I care about compete and play in dirty areas/traffic.

Berube even separated the two leading up to the season. I forgot what the two musts were... one was definitely "compete", I think the other was working hard? But the compete is definitely what Marner lacks.

Nylander can hold off an opponent with one arm better than probably anyone in the league. He also can take a bump and keep his feet moving. He does it often. He is 200 lbs, very solid on his feet and physically strong, we know he trains each offseason. He is also an excellent skater and can outskate physicality.

Matthews, is excellent physically and in dirty areas.

Tavares, is one of the best players in dirty areas.

Marner... 180lbs soaking wet, easily knocked off the puck and he rarely goes into a dirty areas. He is one of the leagues slowest players and therefore cannot outskate physical play. Coach and GM had to tell him to "put in the work" last offseason. Marner plays shinny hockey.

Congrats to Mitch on the birth of their baby.
I remember reading about this story potentially happening during the First Round of playoffs. I never brought it up because I'm superstitious about such things, though I'm not too superstitious in general.

Of course we don't know the guy personally but I am happy for him and from what I read that the birth resulted in a healthy boy. Congratulations to him and his wife.

Now, if there were ever additional motivation a guy could have to win a Cup, this would be it. Marner has the opportunity of a lifetime to say "you were born during the famous Toronto Stanley Cup run after almost 60 years of a city not winning a Cup. I had 26 points in that playoff run including two overtime winners".

He can buy his boy the Blu-Ray DVD that comes out immortalizing the Cup win for Toronto. Bring the passion and drive he played with in honour of his newborn. A new child can motivate a man to new heights.

Adrenaline will be there for the first game and hopefully he keeps that high up all series.

Nice built in excuse for the PR crew if he shits the bed against the Panthers. It might even be legit.

Thank god our current GM didn't hand out any contracts that limit movement, only Matthews/Nylander/Tanev/OEL/McCabe/Domi/Kampf/Hakanpaa/Stolarz/Woll have a NMC/NTC...............

Also, if a player doesn't want to move, they will likely have a list of teams on their NTC that are likely to trade for them, so I am guessing it'd be blocked regardless, but it is a nice attempt at hating a GM for a common practice.

Mitch has done a good job during the regular season of ignoring the “noise” as people put it. Be it contract talk, 100 points, 4 nations, etc.

This is a new level of distraction. I wonder if it’s his first, because I was cooked for a few weeks after our first. Now I’m not an athlete and maybe don’t have the team helping with support at home, but I will be impressed if he can still level up in this next series. Definitely needs to channel this great experience into an homage to fatherhood through hockey. Score one for the kid Mitchy.

good day to remember that Serious Franchises prioritize cap flexibility and depth and a rigid salary structure
Good day to realize that fancy passes/plays aren't that helpful in playoff hockey.

Colorado vs Dallas:

Mackinnon - Mackinnon takes puck at blueline and attacks the slot and scores from bad angle. No fancy passes needed.

Rantanen - no fancy pass, carries puck over blue line, attacks middle of ice and scores (teammate runs a pick).

Rantanen - Attacks net, attempts wrap around that deflects in off Colorado D man. No fancy pass, just attacking and shooting.

None of the goals scored on breakaways. None of the goals on fancy passes

All the goals by great goal scorers just attacking and getting shots on net.

Matthews pp goal, no fancy pass, not a hard shot just a perfect shot with goalie screened.

Matthews just needs to get more shots on net.... hard to do when Marner is trying to make every play a highlight reel play.

11 million dollar Marner had just 5 5v5 shots in 6 games vs Sens. One was a breakaway. Hard to score goals when you can't get shots on net.
