Dreger and co. were very accurate during the last negotiation with the bits they put out so I'm just assuming they're accurate again.

Dreger has never reported a number. The only person who has is Nick Kypreos.

Even Lebrun said his number is a GUESS based on what he THINKS Rantanen would want. You can go back and read the article he put out.

???? This is not different at all. The islanders chose not to trade JT. He may or may not have said he wanted to stay, but he could not in any way refuse all trades.

He also may have had no idea what he wanted.

Marner was approached about trades and refused. That’s not at all the same.

JT had a modified NMC in New York. The Islanders could have moved him if they wanted. JT didn’t block a trade

What’s your point? You’re proving my point. The situations are not similar and you keep saying they arw

Yes. Marner blocked at least one trade. And refused to discuss options or where he would go.

That’s way worse if he leaves

I said it probably didn’t help the situation. Also Marner negotiated the NMC in good faith. The organization gave it to him. So anyone mad that he didn’t waive can screw off. Don’t give players a tool and then get mad that they used it. So the leafs have no one but themselves to blame for Marner not waiving.

And no, the world isn’t black or white. Marner can actually be unsure of what he wants. He still has two months to decide. Additionally there’s new factors in his life, does he want to raise a child here? People just automatically assume that’s what both he and his wife want. Maybe it’s not what they want or they are still figuring it out. Either way this situation is not like JT at all and I don’t even think Marner would get a lot of hate for leaving. It would be the opposite, people would be happy. So not sure what you’re going on about.
If I was in his shoes I would be looking at Utah. Beautiful city, energetic with lots if outdoor activities in SLC and the surrounding area, not too big, owners seem to be good people, and great place to raise a family.

Haha, did any fan realistically expect Marner to waive, while his wife is pregnant no less? Come on be serious my friend.

If Marner leaves, fans will be mad at management for not trading him before the NMC kicked in. I don’t really see Marner getting the JT treatment in Toronto. Fans wanted JT to stay in Mew York, fans want Marner to leave in Toronto.

He would leave with a new born? But not a pregnant wife?
What fans want Marner to leave? Like 50 vocal people on twitter?

There are millions of fans.

Yes… you would make your 3rd trimester wife move?

Moving after giving birth is WAY easier than moving while pregnant…. Moving mid season would mean 1 of 2 things, Marner would have to leave his wife behind so she can continue with the doctors she has or find a completely new ONGYN to provide care in the last trimester neither of which is ideal. Not to mention the amount of stress a mid season move can put on a pregnant person, the whole point is to reduce stress during pregnancy to minimize complications. Once the baby has arrived safely and wife is good, that would be the perfect time to make the move to a new town and get settled in.

The intention is also to deflect and distract, when he knows he's wrong. Everybody is so focused on him insulting people that they missed that his statement directly prior wasn't true.
It looks like you may have been right, although backwards. Some posters have focused on the perceived insult in an attempt to "deflect and distract" from the actual facts provided (apart from the error you pointed out).

Marner under any circumstances may never even concider Carolina so this trade would of only been for 3 potential months then back to free agency and move again . There's no way that happens unless he'd already decided Carolina was where he wanted to sign long term . I can't believe people can't see this .

Can get another 88 million and who knows after that. Easily have career earnings of 175 million but yeah chase every last penny and move on. I find it unbelievable he would do that but money is the be all end all for many.

Who’s to say he’s chasing every last penny? If he signs for 12.5 I don’t see that unreasonable, even 13 as a UFA isn’t unreasonable. It’s sports, fans need to grow up a little bit. He’s got UFA leverage, it is what it is, he’s gonna get paid.

Like I said before him getting 12.5 or 13 isn’t going to really be a major difference for anything they want to do. If they are signing Marner that means as an organization they believe in the core and are unlikely to sign any big ticket UFA afterwards anyways.

Additionally I think in a candid moment if your were to ask Tre, I think they rather get rid of Rielly’s contract.

Here is what Rantanen did in game #7.

Here is what Rantanen did in pressure games #5-7 ... 5 goals 6 assists for 11 points in 3 games.

Rantanen signed for 8 years at $12 mil per AAV.

Any Leaf fan on the planet still happy an Unwanted Mitch Marner blocked this trade with this NMC?

Watching that video was fun.

But isn't Rantanen much more like Nylander than Marner? I could easily see Willy come back to kick our butts, but not Mitch.

Actually, except for the lucky wrap-around off the defender (and the short time span), it was very similar to Willy in game 6 - one great snipe, a PP assist (Rantanen's was better), and an EN (Willy's was better).

It didn’t have to be Carolina. I get last minute hey do you want to go here in March. Sure. That only happened out of desperation because they had no idea what he wants. . He had all summer to negotiate. He could have given the leafs a list of teams, a salary number. Anything.

If he wanted to leave he could have left and been ok. Heck he may sign in June. But he has handled this so terribly.

Gosh golly, it looks like a 12m player. Marner not so much lol

Rantanen or Marner .. Who would you rather have now on the Leafs?

This Has NEVER Happened In NHL History

Remember he blocked that trade too. It was there for us but Marner is gonna Marner. His attitude has been the most disappointing aspect of his time here. The lack of success in elimination games is the salt in the wounds

I imagine the Dallas front office looked at eachother and said, and that's why we got him.

I don't dissagree but it's people lashing out that he didn't waive , at that instant . This is on the Leafs i think more than Marner . They could of asked him for a list a long time before that . Feels like Marner's been clear since day 1 , he's going to free agency in not so many words . Leafs read it wrong and thought he'd negotiate only with them .
