Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Part 3758391849

Eight points in six games... Tied for the team lead. Ya, gotta worry about his offense.
Do you watch the games or do you think a gimmie pass on the PP counts as offence?

No seriously, why bother watching the games if you're just gonna list box scores.

I could have made that pass to Matthews. Marner got a lot of points being the PP QB.

He's averaging 1.5 shots per game, and you think there's 0 question about his offence?

I thought his main contribution was his terrific read on the first penalty kill.. there was a battle at the back wall and he saw Tanev would win it and McCabe would get the puck with no way to get it down. With perfect timing he slid down behind the goal line to be an outlet and got the puck out.. That really set the tone as Ottawa got nothing going.

That is not worth 14 million but it was a big play tonight.

and Marner lost a lot of pts with exemple knies or Carlo who didn't connect all alone in the slot or matthews on a 2v1

Sometime you get pts for thing you don't necessairly deservr and sometime you lost pts because that's just doesn't goes in your way...

But at the end whatever people saying, Marner was the guy from core 4 who was the more ready to pay the price whatever he got hurt or anything. Alone Marner (10) had more hit last 2 game than Matthews, Nylander and Tavares combined ( 8 combined)

Still wish he’d shoot a lot more but Marner is having a crazy good year all around. Plays a lot of tough minutes and surprisingly has been bumping people a bit and using body positioning more. Easily our most consistent two way player.

Going to be interesting to see what happens against the rats next round.

Sorry but he's still not beating the allegations for me. 5v5 scoring continues to be an issue in closeout games and his playoff goal scoring still sucks ass. He is paid for more than just good defense and PP assists.
This is the issue, if I didn’t know who people were talking about when describing his game, I would think it was a 3rd liner who is good on the PK

He is making 11 mil. You need to solo generate offence at that price.

9 shots in 6 games isn't gonna do it boss.

Marner steps up with EIGHT (8) points in SIX (6) games and the Leafs advance to the second round.

This has to be an absolutely soul crushing win for the Marner haters.

Sorry about your luck.

Regardless, people are crazy if they think this is an acceptable level of 5 on 5 offence from a soon to be 35 million dollar line.

I'm very much looking at Matthews too.

Marner haters can sympathize with Senators fans - - they’re both feeling devastated tonight.

At least we can put his playoff struggles to bed. Great series.
Do you seriously have zero clue as to what a tone deaf post this is? Playing great for 86 games, then turning once again into a ~40 point player starting in game 87 is putting his struggles to bed? I don't think I've ever see anyone spin their wheels while trying so hard. I suggest you give it a rest and enjoy the win. We'll find out soon enough if Marner can change the narrative but you'd have to be brain dead to think he's proven anything yet.

Two years ago he put up points against TB in round 1, then was a ghost against Florida in round two. Him getting another chance to prove his worth and show that he can produce offence against a good team after game 86 is definitely one of the most interesting sub-plots of this series. I'd love nothing more than to see Marner put up another 8 points or so and lead the Leafs into round 3 but he hasn't proven anything yet. I'm sure all Leaf fans are rooting for Marner, just like we're rooting for all our players and we'll see what happens. GLG!!

But who generated in Solo

Matthews was a passing/shot attempt missed and the puck goes in because of great Knies work ib front. It was not a solo goal

Nylander happened after a great turnover created by Pacioretty whonallowed Nylander to be able to jump in a 2v1. Again was not a solo

Patch goal was after Domi missing a 2v1 and won a 2v3 battle behing the met. Again not a solo goal...

Hockey is a team sport and solo play basically don't exist. Exemple knoes breakaway goal was an amaizing solo rush from knies by was not a solo play... It's started with a great team work in D zone. If you want to play solo in a team sport, you gonna suck.

Marner don't have a hard shot so if hes taking shot from distance, its basically always a pass/ shot attempt and not necessairly direct to the net, a lot of time its wild for the deflection...

But like i also said you would like to see marner a bit more agressive. I think in 3rd and late in 2nd he was...
