Player Discussion Mitch Marner, Part 3758391849

Again... Tulsky said a players linemates are biggest factor in production.

Eichel could only dream of playing on a team with linemates like Tavares, Matthews and Nylander.

What is the best linemates Eichel has had, Stone and couple years of unmotivated O'Reilly?(yes he actually admitted to being unmotivates in Buffalo).

Eichel plays the harder position, is a great passer, great shooter, produces in postseason and has great size and skating. I read that Eichel will be getting Selke consideration this year.

It isnt even close.

Didn’t Eichel have 6 goals the entire playoff run with Vegas or something like that?

So if we have a deep run and Marner has similar stats 6 goals & 20-25 assists, are you going to hold the same standard? Or you still gonna complain about his lack of goal scoring? Cause you’re not holding that same weight for Eichel.

If they make it to the 3rd round as you suggest and he has 6/20, i'll stfu about him forever

All the 100 point pace haters, just want to get in here before any clowns try to rewrite history. Stfu!!!

Well deserved Mitch. Only 4 Leaf in history to do it.

He is on less pace now than his previous 100pts pace seasons. Clearly declining a bit.

I am joking. Good for him to finally actually hit the mark

playing alonside Matthews in regular season for sure that can help but in playoff when the 3 other guybin was worst not really.

Playing with guy like pietrangelo, theodore and cie who was much better to defend ( sonplaying less in your own zone) and to help the team in transition ( helping in the offensive side). that's also help the foward in frontb especially when ice became closer in playoff

Exemple how many time did we saw Marner needing to come back in d zone
to carry the puck because the D was unable to do their job in playoff??? Just too much. Especially for a team with a off the rush system where they was creating majority of their scoring chance off the rush.

Tj " i can't play physical game " Brodie
Justin "pylon" Holl
Tymothy " useless" liljegren

so yeah overal Matthews was better thsn any player playing with Eichel but the 3 other guy on the ice was worst and it isn't even close.

It's basically the 1st time ever leafs really having a contender D, let's see what will happen and for sure that will help the guy in front

Congrats Mitchy. 100 points is a great season. I see you are doing your best at growing a beard. Hope this helps translate into strength and bravery for the playoffs.
ps. Hope Mrs Mitchy likes it too.

Good point. They have been stuck with Marner the whole year. Glorified 4th liner who can't skate, shoot or score. 73 times this season he tried giving the puck away only to have a teammate intercept it and score+ 27/tap ins, and there is still a game left.
Yeah, remember, Tulsky said linemates are the most important factor in production. Tulsky said this.

You have been saying that all year tbf
BTW, I noticed there was a segment in the intermission where the panel was asked what they thought the odds are of Marner staying in Toronto. I didn't see the whole thing but I think one guy said 40%, one guy said I think it was 70% or 80% but I missed what O'Dog said. Did you by any chance catch what O'Dog said? Or if anyone else can fill me in I'd appreciate it, thanks in advance!

The Leafs will make it past the third round, but people still won't shut up about him.

If the Leafs get to the Cup, even better win it, the same hardcore Mitch haters will be building a statue of him outside of Scotiabank Arena.

Make no mistake, the animosity towards Marner starts with this team's lack of playoff success. This team wins and instantly the negative narratives around Mitch, Auston, Morgan and the rest do a full 180 and they are enshrined along with Gilmour, Wendel, Borje as Maple Leafs royalty.

There will still be a contingent of people who do not like him because of his physical build and the way that he plays.

Are we sure about this? This is their ppg side by side and running total up to that point

YearMarnerEichelRunning Total MarnerRunning Total Eichel
16-170.7920.9346157
17-180.8410.955130121
18-191.1461.065224203
19-201.1361.147291281
You cut out Eichel's rookie season lol.

It's actually...
Year 1: Marner 0.79 > Eichel 0.69
Year 2: Eichel 0.93 > Marner 0.84
Year 3: Marner 1.15 > Eichel 0.96
Year 4: Marner 1.14 > Eichel 1.06
Year 5: Marner 1.22 > Eichel 1.15
Year 6: Marner 1.35 > Eichel 0.86
Year 7: Marner 1.24 > Eichel 0.74
Year 8: Marner 1.23 > Eichel 0.99
Year 9: Marner 1.25 > Eichel 1.08
Year 10: Marner ??? > Eichel 1.22

So Marner had the better P/GP in 8 out of each of their first 9 years.

And in that second year, Marner was actually better too. He produced better at 5v5 (2.03 > 1.76) and on the PP (9.00 > 7.91). He just had less opportunity handed to him in his early career.

Even this year is a bit of a mirage, driven by Eichel's secondary assist rate randomly exploding. Before this year, it averaged 26% of his point total. This year, secondary assists account for 42% of his point total, and is the entire cause of his higher producing season.

Throughout their entire careers...

P/GP
Marner: 1.13
Eichel: 0.99

5v5 P/60
Marner: 2.65
Eichel: 2.07

PP P/60
Marner: 7.17
Eichel: 6.09

While Marner has also brought elite defense and PKing.

And that initial post was actually about their respective pre-signing performances, where Marner blew Eichel out of the water.

P/GP
Marner: 0.93
Eichel: 0.80

5v5 P/60
Marner: 2.38
Eichel: 1.60

PP P/60
Marner: 7.19
Eichel: 6.30

I'm very happy he got 100 and that the "chase" for it wasn't a big deal or overshadowed the teams mission and success in locking down the Atlantic Division Title. Now it's time for the big test, and with his Four Nations experience around those winners and his play under Berube we should be in for a big postseason from him.
There are no more excuses for this core. Supposedly all are heathy and they have the best D and G. It is on them if they do not get to the ECF this year if they cannot score more than 2 goals per game when it counts.

The guy who traded for MacKinnon's linemate and paid a ton for him said that?
