Matthews: 13 primary assists on Knies and Marner goals 5v5

Marner: 12 primary assists on Matthews, Knies goals 5v5

Does this mean Matthews is a pass first forward who shouldn't be judged on his goal scoring in the playoffs?

Marner now has just 3 primary assists in past 29 games.

- 1 was a primary assist on a 5-0 win over Columbus. The 5th goal in the late in the 3rd.
-1 was a pass from his own zone vs the Panthers (missing all their good players).
- 1 was a pass vs lowly Flyers because Flyers made a bad change.

Tonight unfortunately Mathews didn't finish, but you are right in that the two stars, Marner and Matthews, complement each very well. Knies is excellent too!

You’ve been on this negative wave for like 3+ years. You say you’ve made your mind up about Marner, okay good for you, get lost. For a player you hate, you spend a lot of time in this thread talking about him. It’s weird.

I pray this core goes on a deep run and Marner extends so you have nothing left to complain about. There would be nothing more satisfying than the leafs winning, Marner scoring and leading the charge and seeing you break down and leave. It would be best for everyone.

I'm pumped for Mitch, been a big fan since drafting him and now hitting 100 points which has been crazy overdue. Happy he got it and now he can focus on the playoffs.

i think it's because the sabres player got possession for a bit before matthews put it in.

i've seen replays from the year he got 99 in 80 where he made a flip pass to matthews and the habs defender either nicked the puck or kicked it right back to matthews and it became an unassisted goal.

Now that he’s finally done it, it is incredible how many seasons he’s been around the century mark. It sure is a mark of excellence in the regular season. Also, with this milestone and Four Nations, does bring a different flavour to the post season.

I know this will disappoint some but there is zero chance the team lets the top scorer on the first division winning team in 25 years walk, regardless of the playoff outcome.

I will try to to make it clearer for you: I haven’t really noticed any fans who go around calling people “not real Leaf fans” just because they’re critical of Marner’s game. Honestly, I haven’t spotted anyone who fits your definition of a Marner fan. They are nonexistent.

I've hated Marners postseasons beginning vs Montreal and I'm not happy to say it. You've liked them?

Eichel is not better than Marner. If you just look at stats it’s not close. You can’t use the championship thing when comparing two players, Eichel literally forced his way out of Buffalo onto a team that went 10 million dollars over the cap to win and abused LTIR. Good on him for winning but that’s a team accomplishment. If you’re looking objectively and just the two players Marner is better and far more consistent. Eichel has started to figure it out post neck surgery though.
