Could well be the case, and then we're probably screwed. Would be hilarious if he insisted on moving to a contender, nobody wanted him so he stays in Toronto, then becomes UFA next summer and finds that there isn't a single contender out there who is willing to meet his contract demands.

Think so too, but it will be fascinating to see how much he prioritizes money on his next deal vs the chance to win.

For example - does he take less to join a Vegas, or does he take more and join a New Jersey or Carolina etc.

In that order. If someone is offering 100M and they are a 2nd tier contender, 99% of players are taking that deal rather than 90M from a 1st tier contender. Especially at Marner's age where he has a lot of hockey to play. Discounts to play for the top teams come later in the career. Players will want to secure the bag.

Thus, if Nashville is offering what he wants, pretty likely it's a strong consideration.

Hard to imagine there won't be at least ONE who is thinking the exact same thing that Toronto spend the past several years thinking - "he's simply too good and HAS to eventually figure this out".

All it takes is one. He's young enough that someone will want to take that gamble.

Yeah points are pretty sexy. There will be a market for him. The return could go a million ways but won't have a 99 point player returning. That alone is enough reason for basically any team to acquire him.

I'd knock on NYR door and ask for K'Andre Miller and Chytil or Schnider, Chytil and a 1st (they couoldnt fit that though)

Look at the people here. They want to keep the core because they think a new coach can fix them. A new GM can fix them.

the core wasnt really 'broken', our defense was just bad, and a complete non threat to score, so, its easier to defend against our core 4 when you know the D cant hurt you.
seriously, an opposing coach is not worried about our D, what are they going to do from the point, other than look for a pass along the boards, none have a slap shot, or are a danger to score.

It's refreshing to hear someone not saying how bad Marner is for once, the best player that has commented too.

Marner definitely shares some blame, but I don't think it is the extent that this board thinks it is.

The PP was an issue, and there are 9 other players who play it.

Marner does face tough competition (no clue if that was the case in the series).

Pastrnak was not his guy.

I wouldn't put past them wanting to get some favorable PR.

But getting Adam Oates on a St. Louis Blues podcast to give you backing is quite the obscure tactic.
