Marner is the much better player with much higher value. Not sure this a debate.Marner's value is quite a bit more than Brock's.

Vancouver isn't even in a playoff spot. They are a fringe team. His bloated salary kind of hurts his value though doesn’t it? Not being a C also doesn’t help. Nor does his disappointing playoffs. Vancouver was just in the playoffs and won a round. Overpaying for a guy who doesn’t help them take that next step isn’t going to be appealing for them. But there are fringe teams who would very much be happy with at least making the playoffs who probably view him differently. Buffalo, Detroit,...you can probably think of a few others. Those are the teams that this conversation should be about.

Vancouver has been a fringe team going back a few years what are you going on about? They had a fluke PDO year last year and missed the playoffs the 3 years prior. Nothing I said was inconsequential or petty. Vancouver isn't a regular playoff contender.I would have thought the examples I cited would be enough for you to make the inference that I was more so referring to fringe teams going back several/a few years.
And if Vancouver strings together some wins, should I come back to your comment to rub it in your face? Is that what you want by making this inconsequential and petty reply?
Not sure why this thread was bumped. It was a ridiculous, maybe potched, proposal when it was posted a couple weeks ago.Marner is the much better player with much higher value. Not sure this a debate.
...except Rounds played in the Playoffs...
I get what you are attempting to say, but you failed miserably doing so. Marner has played in 9 rounds of playoff hockey, Boeser has played in 5.
It's also not relevant. Boeser was the 5th best for his team in points for 2020 covid bubble.
Ryan Reaves has more series than both these guys, is he the best? What does playoff games have to do with an individual player?...the reference was to the Playoff Rounds themselves:
Marner:
1st Round - 8 times
2nd Round - 1 time
Boeser:
1st Round - 2 times
2nd Round - 2 times
3rd Round - 1 time
Mariner is a better offensive player but I honestly would rather have Boeser. Boeser is good defensively, shows up come playoffs, brings decent size and is hard to push around. There’s also going to be a big difference in their cap hit which allows us to add other pieces.
Marner was a selke finalist.
And Derek Jeter”won” a gold glove. What’s your point?
That Marner is a much better player both offensively and defensively
Wow, does this Rantanen trade ever put pressure on Toronto and Marner. One team has already told the better player “we’re no paying you that”. Now watch TML/BS cave (ie not be shrewd enough to say no).
Might want to see how the trade plays out for Colorado before declaring victory there.
Where's the declaration of victory? Do you honestly believe Toronto has the chutzpah to say no to Marner? And not only that but the Avs just gave Toronto ammunition to tell Marner no. If Marner's agent comes at Toronto with how much Rantanen got, Toronto can say, "yeah, well Rantanen was also traded." But Toronto probably would never use this as ammunition.
And this outcome thing youre alluding to, it now has another pathway that works against Marner/Toronto. If Carolina goes far in the playoffs, the pressure is really on Toronto/Marner isnt it? Has this occurred to you?
You called Colorado shrewd for the trade. How shrewd will they look if Rantanen continues to be a superstar while Necas returns to being a solid player before leaving just one year later?
The pressure was already on Toronto to do well in the playoffs, this really doesn’t change anything. Carolina and Colorado making a trade does not have this seismic impact on Torontos plans as you seem to be suggesting.
During which months?
Shrewd as in being willing to eventually make a tough decision. At the time you do this, there are no guarantees. Toronto seems to tremble in fear of scenarios like this. They would rather have the same outcome year after year than be 50 ft in the air without a safety net.
The months that get you into the playoffs. Which may be in part why Toronto's been in the post-season every year Mitch has been here while Vancouver with Brock? Not exactly.
Better player by a long-shot. Every month, every year.
Marner has full trade protection and wants to be in Toronto. The Rantanen trade creates no additional pressure because a trade is essentially impossible, the situations are not the same. Rantanen had limited trade protection.

That depends a hell of a lot on whether that trade actually works out for Colorado, no? Yah they stuck to their guns, and they’re a worse team for it, at least for now.
