You broke my heart Mitch and I’m your biggest defender on here. The panicked play, the lack of poise, the mindless game, the lack of leadership, I’ll never understand.

And your buddy 34 was pure horseshit too. Couldn’t wait to give up the puck, hiding in coverage, also no poise. That big body playing like that was painful.

Mentally they beat both of them.

Yeah. Having a top 5 league scorer is the WORST thing to happen to the leafs in the last ten years. No doubt about that.
Yes having a a regular season top 5 scorer that gets paid 11 million to no show in the playoffs to f*** up our cap IS the worst thing.

Ottawa will take Marner. He had a poor playoffs but everyone in Toronto not named Spezza did

So tragic watching it unfold. Disappointing just doesn't cut it....

I love Marner as a player. Thrilled when he was drafted, and still think he's one of the most fun to watch players out there.

But him demanding the big payday was bull ****, and his playoff performances have been dog ****.

I'm fine with it if he's traded. And, honestly, I don't know how else they can make any real changes or improvements otherwise.

Yeah, especially now that it’s essentially confirmed the cap won’t be moving for the life of the contract. Moving Marner is the only way we can truly regain cap flexibility.

Even moving Marner and acquiring someone in the 7-8M range, helps A LOT.

It might be time to move on from Marner but they should be careful and be prepared to bide their time. No point in shooting ourselves in the foot with a knee jerk deal just to get him gone.

and I know no one wants to hear it right now but this current core just about assures us a playoff birth every season and that’s still worth something.

In the future if we ever draft someone who spends more time chewing his mouthguard and skates around with this look on his face:

Trade him right away.

My thoughts as well. I'm not a jersey guy in adulthood but decided I wanted one of the new core, and picked Marner (at least my gf gifted it to me, but still). My other Leafs jerseys growing up were Gilmour and Sundin. I can still hang them on my wall. I don't even know what to do with this - I feel embarrassment and shame. I know the kid wants it and is hurting over his play, I also know he's a great kid and does a ton in the community, but what a disaster on the ice in the POs, geez.

I'm sure they can make the playoffs without Marner considering if he was traded, you would be getting a good piece coming back as well.

Marner was complete trash this series and deserves all the criticism he gets.

but also, did anyone else feel like Hyman needed to get off that line? I realize he was clearly trying very hard and I am happy with his performance but he also carried the puck and cycled it as a one man crew all series too. If you really want to ride or die with Marner and Matthews, than they should have never let Hyman touch the puck. Hyman should have been getting open like Matthews was trying... he should have been going to the net. Instead he was the one with the puck.

Or a couple of pieces. Why does it have to be another expensive piece.

Imaging a 5 million player who can score goals with another solid D on the back if someone gets hurt.

Trade him before he becomes 10 years of what Calgary has had to deal with on the Johnny Gaudreau front.

You need an "all situations" winger to play with Tavares, for far less money than Marner makes. Nylander should play with Matthews. I'd actually look to trade Marner for a true #1 defenseman like like a Seth Jones, who can eat massive minutes. Then I'd go out and sign a guy like Jaden Schwartz in free agency. Somebody who has won something...

????-Matthews-Nylander
Schwartz-Tavares-Hyman

Jones-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl

That looks like the start of something to me...

1000%. That's on Keefe - why continue to roll out Hyman when the line hasn't clicked. He started to throw Willy on there but too little too late. Hyman showed last night he has next to zero finish. We've seen it time and time again throughout the POs, he can manage to get Grade A scoring chances but can't finish. When the team is in desperate need of offence, he cannot be playing that much ice time on our premier line.

Not many options on LW

William Nylander???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Side note. Campbell was juggling pucks for the start of the game and everyone I was chatting with about the game knew he was going to let in a soft goal. Montreal was just twisting shots from anywhere waiting for one to bounce to them. Campbell made it easier then that, but he’s not your cup goalie.

Id start in goal in Toronto and not worry about Marner.
